All ive done is put down a deposit on a venue and set a date but all i seem to get is negative comments from the mother in law like 'well i cant make that date'!! i voice my opinion on details i would like and i get 'dont do it like that why dont you do this'!! Everything i say is wrong and all i ever wanted was to go abroad with just imediate family and have the simplist on the beach wedding instead i seem to be getting a manor house with all the trimmings which is the opposite to what i want.

Thinking of cancelling and losing deposit as thats all thats been paid for before we put down any more money and go abroad but now voicing my ideas on this has caused family upset. I just dont know what to do anymore, please the family or do what i want!! my fiance just says he wants me to be happy ARGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Stop telling her what you are doing! if she is not going to be supportive and give constructive advice and accept your choices then she does not get to hear about the plans. Its not like she is paying for it is she?
she will just have to turn up on the day and see that your way is just as good as her way.

I had exactly the same problem, she was a pain in my bottom for months and i finally said if you dont like it dont bother coming and my h2b backed me up. As he said it is what we want not what other people want, at the end of the day its your day and it will be remembered by you for the rest of your fantastic married life. Sod everyone and do what you want hunny !!!!

In answer to the title of the post apparently YES a wedding must be stressful otherwise its not a wedding lol I think it must be some kind of tradition or something lol

Thanks every one. I do believe the same but its harder to actually do, you try and get on with it and ignore it but it still makes you feel guily/bad for not pleasing everyone. I think i have made up my mind i just need to get on and do it and not tell her till i have to!! that way she cant get involved and no she isnt paying we are!

Hope everyone elses plans are working out just how you all want them x

P.s does anyone know about travel insurance if you have suffered with breast cancer, i have a family member who is worried they wont get or afford travell insurance if we do go abroad and it is imortant they come. if anyone knows of anywhere that is good value i would appreciate the info, thanks again guys x x x

I would definitely do what you want to do - who ever heard of somone's mother saying she can't make a particular day to see her child get married? She's just being awkward for no reason!
