Are you letting your bms choose their dresses or are you going to choose them and tell them they are wearing them?

we picked them together. i said that i would like a certain style but then they have picked their own dresses within that style... and strangely (although my bms live 170miles apart) they picked the same dresses on their own! lol

i thought it was important that they were comfortable and happy with what they are wearing so that they can enjoy their day without feeling concious. so many girls i know that have been bridesmaid have hated their dresses that had been picked for them and i didnt want out sister to feel like tht.

I totally agree with that. I'm just bit concerned about one bm who was a bm before and dictated what she should wear & wanted to look different to the other bms. The silly thing is this girl is an 8-10 and my sisters & sil2b are size 12. I have to be more careful with them as they are all busty so would prefer not to have strapless etc which is fine by me as I wouldn't want strapless either. I just don't want her trying to take over as she has a tendency to do this. Xxx

i am letting them choose to some extent - i am showing them what i would like and go from there. i am having adult bridesmaids and wondered if i should get the dresses from bay of e? or ask a shop for a discount? also do you think it would be too much to ask the bridesmaids to buy their own shoes? x

I plan on buying the dressed but asking them to pay for any alterations and their own shoes. As long as they are silver shoes I don't mind what they get as long as their feet don't hurt. I think that's reasonable as if they weren't bms they would be getting an outfit anyway & I am bm for my sister next month and she paid for dress but I paid for alterations & already have shoes. For her bm dresses we went shopping & decided on a Mori Lee dress which was £179 but then we bought them online from the US and they cost £80 plus shipping & they were fine xx

yeh i agre with claire if you have a particular look you like then you have to narrow the choices down for the bridesmaids, definately. kerry you can put your foot down (in the nicest possible way) and say to your bm that you dont want her to have a different dress, but if you didnt mind about hair and accessories she can make herself look different that way.

My philosophy with BM dresses is this - if YOU are paying then they get input as to what they wear but it's you that gets the ultimate say on which dresses
    BUT
You can't (obv you can but I wouldn't) say "I've picked a £200 BM dress and you have to pay for it" as I think that's deeply unfair.

What I'd be tempted to do is to take them out to look at dresses and see which ones they like then go with the majority vote, you'll never please all of them so don't even try. If that particular BM tries to object then you can simply say "Sorry hun, it's me that's paying for your dress and the other BMs like it, if you don't like your dress then please feel free to step down from my WP"

    It's right what they say

But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as

I am choosing, although I would trust my 17 year old daughter as she has the same taste as me, my other BM is 10 and wears some right freaky outfits! trying to find anything that we all like is already becoming a bloody nightmare! x

I think its important for them to feel comfy in what they are wearing so there should be a compromise on both sides. I want gold and long but other than that I'm not too bothered as long as it is something that suits them. My adult chief bridesmaid has just had a baby so she is conscious of her stomach and new big boobs so she wants something that skims over her which I don't blame her. As I'm having one adult, one aged 10 and one aged 3 it doesn't really matter if they are different dresses as long as they are the same colour.

i found a dress i liked alot online i then looked at stockists and took my girlies across, when they put it on i could tell it wasnt right :( so we tried a few others and the lady could see we were all unhappy with certain parts of each dress so she said hang on, this one used to only come in long it now comes in short aswell. Got my girls to try it on and we all loved it, it was a done deal :) xx

Thanks girls. I agree they should feel comfy and not self conscious as I would want to feel happy if I was bm. I'm prob just worrying over nothing, I'm mire concerned about her dictating what the others wear but she herself would look nice in anything but it's the others I need to be mire considerate towards, one too is not happy with baby belly & big boobs so I would choose styles to suit her and I know would suit the others too. It's difficult as my 2 sisters live 2.5hrs from me so not sure how we'll get it sorted. Xx

If you have a bossy one just remind her that you are the bride and she can make her choices what to have when she gets married. Until then you need to make sure that EVERYONE looks good and not just her. You will take into consideration what she wants but you must also do the same for the others as well. If she kicks off after that I suggest a pair of size 7 shoes up her backside :P

i'm choosing the dresses for them but that's because i'm having 7 + a flowergirl!! so would be a pain in the neck to let them choose, and i'm trying to get them cheaper from the internet! but i'm asking them to get their own shoes so they can be comfy and have their own style!! gonna make sure i choose carefully tho, so i'll hopefully keep them all pleased! x
