apologies if this has been discussed before but did a search and nothing came up :)
My h2b keeps saying he wants me to say "obey" during our vows, i'm sure he is joking but wondered if any other brides is having to suffer the nagging about this too :)

You cant please everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love smillies :)
CommentAuthorNishaVyas88
Nah, my h2b knows I'd never go along with the "obey" thing. Personally, I find that vow insulting and outdated. "Respect" is a much more apt version.
CommentAuthorMrsV2b
Totally agree, and i told him that i would only obey if he got dow on his knees in the church and begged :) and then he had to say obey as well :) lol

Absolutely- if the bride says "obey", the groom should as well. Gender equality and all that *makes "Girl Power" sign*
hmm ... can i ask you what obey means? sorry to sound silly but never hurt of it and as i'm nt english i might be knowing it but it probably is called different please explain it to me!? thx xx
CommentAuthorFaeth
Obey means to do what someone tells you to.
"Of course I'm not wedding obsessed!!"
CommentAuthorFass
H2b (Stu) tells me i that i should say obey. I know he is only joking tho. I wouldn't want to say that. I think respect is much nicer

I dont think that was an option in our vows, maybe its just a church thing? Wouldnt bother me if i had to say it though.

Got married 11/11/11.
CommentAuthorKimi
OBEY - the only obeying is my dogs to my commands. :P
The days are flying by, can't wait :)
CommentAuthorSteph-Hughes-2b
it's not come up for us, but i'm pretty sure we will not be doing that in our vows
CommentAuthorjo Santa
No. I escaped a marriage where all I did was OBEY. I have every intention of being equal partners this time round so I won't be starting it off by vowing to obey, lol.

Definitely not! x
CommentAuthorMrsV2b
I think our oh's use it as a way off winding us up. I really cant imagine having a man who really meant it, mind you if he did i wouldnt be marry him :) trying to explain to oh there is a difference between obey and being kind and doing him a favour, and getting him a beer from the fridge is not the same as promising to obey him!!!!!!!!!!! lol

CommentAuthorloubylou
we keep joking about adding 'obey' but we arent saying it either. our minister said its not actually in the vows at his church now, its only added if someone requests it. :)
21st October 2011 will be the best day of my life!!!
CommentAuthorpennieb-MrsRiley
I've no idea if it's actually in our vows tbh, but if it is then I will say it, I have no qualms about saying it as part of the vows knowing that we have a very equal relationship anyway
Now, finally, Mrs Riley
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
