Bigger budget is entirely up to your own interpretation and to be honest you can be big budget on some things and scrimping on other things. I'm tight as anything when it comes to some things and completely over the top on others.
CommentAuthorsuzky123
i have a bigger budget and even though im second guessing, its still nice to have a place to talk about what we are all doing without being glared at (so to speak). So what is everyones budget and what are you all doing for it? I'll spill if someone else goes first.

Okay then- well yes I class it as a reasonable budget then as the money has been left to me after my dad passed away- and though normal day to day scrimping- the wedding is one thing that I am prepared not to necessarily shop around on to get the 'cheapest' price. Obviously we're not being taken for a mug moneywise- just nice to have a bit of freedom.
:-)

I guess it's just a place to feel free to bounce about expensive shoes or dresses or beautiful flowers or fireworks and not have to feel that we're putting anyone's nose out of joint by doing it.

i have 2 pairs of Gina shoes and 1 pair of Jimmy Choo ballet pumps for the dancing at my wedding. I'm starting in high high heels and getting lower through-out the day. Am I a BBB? (am not having a go....... just saying you dont need a big budget to have nice shoes!!)

Currently we're sitting around £27k for our wedding in a Scottish castle and marquee for 125-150 day and 250-300 night. We're both having bespoke outfits made by Scottish designers and my bridesmaids are having dresses made by my favourite corsetiere. We've got an ice cream tricycle and a magician during the drinks reception and then a band, a DJ and fireworks at night. I'm doing everything I can to make sure that our guests have an unforgettable day without thinking that we've gone overboard.
CommentAuthorSpecialSundae
Linzi - There's nothing to stop anyone being a BBB in one area and on a tight budget elsewhere. I'm sticking to a tight budget on flowers but blowing the budget on my dress, Grant's kilt suit and my shoes (and the catering but the per head cost is actually lower than many other people's)
CommentAuthorStave
OK SS! You have convinced me, where is the box office????

Ooh, I'd LOVE an ice-cream tricycle :o)

My catering per head is £99 PLUS the evening buffet at £16.95.
It'd better be amazing...
But, we wanted the venue, and that was their price. Got £500 knocked off the venue hire, which will pay for the canapes.

I'm ever so slightly jealous of your three waiters, Croc!
Ooh! What's the venue, Tinsel?
CommentAuthorx~Hails~x
I think im a "in the middle budget bride" hehehe
Im prepared to pay over the odds on some things for example my photographer (£1250) our rings (£700 for both) the venue (3k) and my dress (£1200, but my lovely sister is paying) and im still trying to convinse matt about the videographer but if i do he will be £650, because i feel these last longer then the day so are worth it and the venue MAKES the day so paying that bit more for it im prepared to do. The rest, im trying to keep costs as low as possiable but i must say it has risen from starting at 5k to nearly 10 and thats with my sister paying for my dress and a friend doing the cake!

I looked everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE, in Essex and Herts and didn't get THE feeling until I walked into Sundridge on a rainy Sunday in February.

wow i looked in to the waiters but they were soooooo pricy and h2b said that since we had the string quartet, cariactiurist, live band and fireworks then I wasnt allowed anything else tinsel thats not too bad for catering, we are doing it for 100 a head but only have 55 in day and 85 at night as h2b had very very very little family/friends. They are all coming from our side but that helps us rein it in a little bit. That includes canapes, three course meal with lamb instead of chicken, welcome drink, 2 glasses of wine and champagne for toast so I think thats about right so dont worry.
would love jimmy choos croc but after just maxing out the flower budget h2b said no way and im to stick with the dune ones in my photies section. Understandable I suppose hehe. I love them though as they are soooo sparkly so im happy. Bet you will feel amazing when you put them on your tootsies.

I guess we're middle budget and I actually compromised quite a lot on the venue because otherwise it would have been ridiculous price (for me, that is!) and I want to be able to pay the mortgage off quicker (I have a secret plan to move out of London and buy a house with room for a horse one day).
But I have gone a bit wild on the dress (in proportion to other stuff) - think will come to about 3k with the bolero etc etc. I must admit that I do feel a bit bad about it. Not that bad though because would choose it all over again!
CommentAuthorStave
Sure you can! hahahah!
It is a first draft fusion between those that know a thing or 2 about fine food and those that havent got a clue. My chef trained with Gary Rhodes and says that he can get the right balance for the guests!

We're having a bit of an issue with our menu. Grant's dad wants us to have three choices for starter and main but didn't understand that it would cost more (he's paying for it). We're currently paying £36 a head for:
Haggis, neeps and tatties towers with Edradour jus (veggie alternative available)
Vegetarian soup (to be chosen, but soup was the specific request)
****
Roast leg of Perthshire lamb with a local blackberry wine jus
Roasted aubergine stuffed with a duxelle of vegetables, rich roasted tomato sauce and shaved parmesan
(Another meat or fish choice, requested by Grant's dad, so thinking possibly rainbow trout, opinions appreciated)
****
Cranachan mousse with boozy cream
(Possibly a cheese board as an alternative)
I'm wondering if it's too simple and narrow. What do you think?

I have to admit I'm a lucky girl and I've had everything I've wanted to make our dream wedding come true. We have still spent it wisely though and invested in the areas that are most important to us. Yes we could have spent more. Yes we could have spent less. We spent enough to make it our dream day. I don't think it matters how much you spend everyone's day is going to be special.
CommentAuthorHoxxyhula
Umm....I love Cranachan! That menu sounds great! My favourite fish is sushi, but if fish must be cooked then rainbow trout sounds fab x

We were going to go for all Indian but Grant's parents objected so we compromised and let them pay. It does mean we can go all out with Slow Food.
CommentAuthorsuzky123
we dont have a menu choice :( we only have the one we come up with and a veggie option but it was the same for most venues we visited in the north west to be honest.

If money were no object, I'd love to have Tom Kitchin do our catering, but I wouldn't change our venue.
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
Tom Kitchen is amazing. If I could have any chef do my wedding it would be Heston Blumenthal, I've been to his restaurant the Fat Duck, a couple of times and his food amazes me everytime. I'd have my guest's sucking sweet favoured helium out of mushrooms and jellied roast dinner lol!

i know what you mean about venues. We fell in love with ours. we just knew it was the one and hunted all over the north west for it. Its an hours drive for guests so they are not particularly happy but at least they are forced to stay until after the band finish as they will be staying over now.
