hi everyone, me and my partner have set a date for july 2011 and are both fretting over the speeches already. the best man is not confident when talking in general and my dad has a stammer (made worse by drinking and i imagine he will be drinking to calm his nerves lol). any ideas? we were thinking of maybe writing the speeches and placing on tables but then what would we down during the sit down meal?

hi amie,,me and my partner have gone to great lengths to tell everybody that speeches will not happen at our wedding, even to the point of putting on the invites "informal reception",,we dont want to do all that,,if people want to say a few words they can but as a rule we'r not

Hi, i dont think there will be speeches at our wedding either and i dont feel you have to have them. Its our day and my fiance or my dad wouldnt feel confident to stand up and make a speech and i dont think i could either. We dont want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. xx

I don't think speeches are necessary. We're definitely not having them - so much that we're actually having a late wedding and a couple of hours later straight into the evening reception. We're both not into the full traditional stuff (so no sit down meal either, just buffet).

Why not have a break in between? You could always go for a meal with just close family etc. I'm having the opposite problem, my ceremony is at 5.30 then meal at 7.30 and hoping evening reception can start before 9!! Will need a magic wand for that to happen I think but dont want the fun in the evening to be short lived! x

This is an old post that I came across and wondered what you are planning for your wedding?

I don't know if I want speeches at our wedding. To be honest we don't have a close group of mutual friends. Think as his best man he wants to ask his cousin, but his cousin doesn't know me that well, it's awkward silence most of the times I have met him and he comes across as very quiet so don't know how interesting his speech would be.

Think my dad would want to do one as it is traditional, but he isn't exactly my h2b biggest fan.

Worried that'll it be a really dull point to the day if we do have them.
