I was hoping to save some money on favours, I had a rough idea about buying some asda smart price mint sauce for the jars (they're about 16p) washing them out and putting sweets in them. Maybe getting some ribbon to match my colour scheme and getting some stickers printed. Hope it will work in theory! Anyone else thinking along these lines?!!

    That's a cute idea, I like that.

We're making our own chocolate shapes with ice trays and putting them in home made favour boxes. :)

you can get chocolate moulds from craft of the hobby in different shapes, we were going to make them but you never know if its going to be too hot for them so we decided against them but we had a go at making lots and lots of them and they were yummy :-)

also another good idea is valentins day, they always have hearts wrapped in red foil. just buy them when they reduce them all down and buy some foil that will match your theme and re-wrap them. my cousin did this and they looked just like the hearts you can buy in different colours

We're making ours, we're making and icing biscuits in the shape of wedding dresses and cakes, then we're going to put them in little bags tied with ribbons with a tag with each persons name on. That way they will double up as place names too! I like the idea of your sweet jars though!

    We are making ours too.

We are having chocolate bars, have bought moulds in the shape of willy wonka bars or for the groomens willy wanka bars (OH little joke).

Going to buy different chocolate and layer it into the moulds. Wanted something that everyone likes and can eat rather and sugar almonds or bonbons which I don't think anyone likes.

That idea about the reduced valentines choc is excellent! I'm having chocolate hearts as well as fortune cookies that my sister will make and never thought of saving money by monopolizing on the commercialism :D

I think little jars are really cute idea and handmade stuff always seems nicer because someone has made it just for you. I think 16p a jar is great as if you brought purpose made jars it would cost a lot more so good spotting there with the smart price sauce :D

Those jars sound like a great idea. Do you not use things like that all year round? Save more pennies and start saving them up now (every penny counts as some supermarket says)

I have ivory organza bags I have decorated with gold pearls and hotfix clear crystals, each has a place card/name tag attached. 1st letter of guests name is done in crystals. On the reverse of the name tags is the meaning/origin of the guests name. In the bag is 5 pieces of Devon fudge, a handmade personalised wine charm. a sppech sweepstake card, and a song suggestion card for the dj in the evening.
I got twice as many organza bags than I needed but found they double as lovely confetti pouches.

Comes to less than a £1 each for everything spent though I do only have 44 guests.

I just hope my favours wont smell of mint!!! Haha! I need to buy a test jar and get some bleach or fabreeze! The other ideas all sound amazing, but I'm not sure I could handle the pressure of making anything edible before the wedding!

i like it, good idea! I've made my own favours, I bought teeny jars of the internet and filled them with home made (made by grandma!) jam. Then put material on the lids to match the colour scheme and wrote labels. It took ages to finish them but they look really cute :o)

we've decided on chocolate lollipops. The moulds, sticks and cellophane bags have come to a total for £7 on the bay, Going to get a few big bars of chocolate, was then thinking of writing each guest name on the chocolate and tieing it with a matching colour ribbon. We're also having crackers with it being so close to christmas. Inside will be some bubbles, some wedding related jokes and maybe some petals x

xMrsMarshall2bx, sterilizing fluid would be the safest option for cleaning the mint smell from the jars, just make sure they're well rinsed too. If its safe for baby bottles its safe for cleaning anything lol, i use it to remove tea stains from cups and spoons :)
