Ive emailed my wedding venue and asked them if we can negotiate at all on price, the venue price is set but we can do something with the menu. Not sure I want a traditional sit down meal for our wedding breakfast-This seems to be the highest cost at £40 per head and drinks at £10 per head... its coming in at £50pp.

I want to get the costs down. So far we're at £8522 incl VAT dont want to spend as much as that If I can help it but REALLY want that venue!

Is anyone having anything different/cheaper for their meals and evening buffet?

    Sarah xx

We are having a 3 course sit down meal as its our preference and we like our guests to be served
HOWEVER, our evening buffet is going to be a "light" buffet
This includes sausage & bacon baps
A few finger bits (6 to choose) and we are adding
a cheese (savoury) cake, grapes and biscuits/rustic bread

We are having a 3 course sit down meal but what we always wanted so will spend the money however we decided we didnt want a buffet of sausage rolls, sandwiches and quiche for our evening do as no one eats it and its boring plus we would have only eaten 2 hours before. So we have opted for a cheese, crackers, pate and fruit which is a fixed price of £600 for 100 people (we have 140 people but dont cater for everyone as they would have eaten 2 hours ago) and this is a cheaper alternative and something we prefer as i love cheese.

We decided go for a BBQ instead of a sit down meal, but our evening food will be a pretty standard buffet, but with popcorn and candy floss as well. We were originally going to have a hot buffet- with a couple of meal choices, which worked out a lot cheaper than a three course meal. xx

We got our venue costs down by doing several things
First we really didnt mind WHEN we got married so choose an out of season date on a sunday cutting the cost nearly in half!
We decided to stick to the min numbers if at all possiable so we have 70 day and 100 evening (min is 60 and 90)
We are having a 3 course meal as I didnt the first time round But we are having our wedding cake as dessert bringing the costs down.
We are not providing ANY drinks all day except hoc choc while we have photos the rest will be a cash bar only, saving us nearly £2k on this alone.
We are having bacon rolls and mini chip cones instead of another big meal like a hog roast or just a buffet!
All of these got my venue from £7-8k to just under £3k :-)

im in the middle of working with the wedding venues owner to lower the budget..The only way I think we could do this is with the food and drinks...can anyone suggest a cheaper but still 'acohol' alternative to the usual bucks fizz arrival drink?

We hate the thought of a sit down formal meal and having to come up with a seating plan (ours is quite small so would feel a bit silly anyway) so we're still having tables and chairs dotted round but we're having hot meat sandwiches and bits and pieces for the day guests and then a buffet on the night. We want people to mingle and sit where they want so this seemed like the best option - and loads cheaper too!

We are having a buffet instead of a wedding meal as there would be alot of chanin in the wedding meal as alot of members of family fussy so thought it alot easier to have a big buffet and good for the kids to then have wedding cake in middle of the evening works out alot cheaper aswell x

    @Kempy......SNAP!

we get married at 2pm, get to the hotel by 3pm, photos then food at 5pm. finish eating by 7pm then just hanging in the bar til finish. we are not having an evening reception.
now to me, thats a fairly long time for our guests to wait to be fed, considering they may have left their house at 1pm to be at the ceremony for 2pm.

So my idea is, marry at 2pm, get to the hotel at 3pm, photos whilst guests have afternoon tea and cakes, then eat at 6pm. this will take us to about 8pm.......

I am loving the idea and the hotel serve afternoon tea for only £5 per head .....for 20+ guests that would only be £100.
plus the actual wedding celebrations will go on for longer that 7pm,
AND, if we eat earlier.....at 5pm, then if the guests stay at the hotel bar with us, then by 9-10 we might find we have to feed them a bar snack or something, so afternoon tea would work out cheaper than having to feed everyone again from the bar menu....(does that make sense?_)

PLUS: its sort of in-keeping with our vintage theme too.......everyone had afternoon tea in bygone years didnt they? LOL
