Hey jade, I've just started looking and have also found that everything seems so expensive. Have you had a look at golf courses I know there is one close to Stevenage which has amazing views and are doing a pretty good package deal. (my soon to be sister in law got married there and they got a good package). I can send you the link if you want though I think you might of already seen this one!

They have a limited offer on at the moment but I'd give them a call and see as you never know what they might be planning in the future!
What part of hertfordshire are you based in? i know the berkhamstead hall is very pretty and good for pricing as well...

I'm not based in Hertfordshire, but i'm just over the border in Bedfordshire, but i went to college in Hertfordshire etc. As raycheroo said, where are you based?

Hi, I'm in Bedfordshire and can't find anywhere that's a reasonable price in Herts or Beds. I have a guest list of 178 and rising and I'm having a nightmare. Any help would be much appreciated, I was looking for somewhere that we can all stay and have breakfast too.

Shendish Manor, I haven't look there I just assumed it would be really expensive, thanks raycheroo I'll have a look and see. Jade I can't drag my family too far away. I'm about to give up and had it all over to my mum and get her to arrange it....wow I've just had a great idea for a new tv show 'Don't Tell the Bride or Groom' just get the mil to arrange the wedding!!! It could make for interesting watching lol.
Thanks Guys, any other ideas you think of would be great.

I've got a few venues for Bedfordshire. The Barns Hotel in Bedford is a good one to look at. Wrest Park in Silsoe. Luton Hoo. Swiss Gardens at Shuttleworth. Have a look at those places and see what you think :)

Have been looking into places for our reception and have found a similar thing, some can be quite ludicrous in the area. Someone said if you are having the ceremony elsewhere then don't mention it is for a wedding reception when asking for quotes as some places hike the prices as soon as it is mentioned (??). Have you looked at 'Best Western, The Watermill' in Hemel Hempstead. It looks gorgeous. I am gonna speak to them to see if they can accommodate us.
CommentAuthorMrs To Be
Hey Hobbitbeth, I've looked and they either don't have the space for all my guests or have no accommodation, and Luton Hoo is soo out of my price range. I have some older members of my family who would need to be taken home if there are no rooms on site. They'll end up going at 8pm so they can get home before it gets too late, but if they were staying at a hotel then they will have a few drinks and 'party hard' . I'm just being really picky, thanks for the great ideas and reminding me of some places that I should have looked at.

Floateelight, The Watermill would be amazing for us, we used to have a barge moored in Hemel so right on the canal would just fit soo well. I'm thinking about getting my mum to arrange an 'event' and not telling them it's a wedding 'cos every time I mention wedding to anyone they slap another £5k to the price.

me...! i'm in hemel and kinda on a budget though we are now a little over... depends on what your budget is and what kinda wedding you want... look outside of herts aswell as the council seem to charge more than double on registry office fees! we have saved over £200 by picking a venue near barnet and as oh friends are all there its still practical for us...

all i did to find the one Jade is viewing today, was get the county list of approved venues up from the county council website and literally went through each one individually, discounting the ones that didnt fit. it works fine for me.

Sussie is totally amazing and thanks to her we now have a wedding venue booked :-) x

Mrs to be - I showed the pics of the watermill to him and he was slightly swayed lol. But, then he has been with most of the ones I have shown him. He is becoming most indecisive about where to have it, and they say brides can be dificult rofl. Unfortuneately we missed the fair they had over the weekend, but there is another one due soon. Sounds like a defo plan to hold an 'event' especially if they are bumping the prices that much. Is awful, and disheartening when they do it.

I think we have a short list lol - Well for the moment anyway. How's everyone else getting on?
