I tried my dress on today with the shoes that Im hoping to wear and I have to say, walking in the combination is THE hardest thing I think I have ever done!! Im not a stiletto or platform shoe kind of girl but fell in love with these pink shoes in Primark. But now Im worried that Im not going to be able to walk in them and Im going to either rip my dress while trying to walk, stand on my dress or fall over.

Anyone else having these worries? And how do you think I can make sure things will be ok? Its not as if I can walk around the house in my wedding dress to practise, lol

Practice makes perfect, you can improvise, just use your imagination like when you were a little girl and you dressed up in an old sheet or tablecloth, lol xx

@Future Mrs Henderson - Doing the same, I'm 5ft 3 to his 6ft 3! the things we do for our tall h2bs!

Maybe take the dress to a friend's house or family member's house... or even when h2b is out with a locked door and then walk around for ages in shoes and if not dress then at least one a similar length?

If not, might be better getting some kind of underskirt for your dress to keep it away from your heels? x

See, I'm 5ft 8 and Ben's 6ft2 so there isn't a huge difference, but it makes my neck ache sometimes when kissing him or looking up at him so thought I'd go with some heels. I'm not sure how a hoop would look under the dress. Do you think the local bridal store would let me take my dress in and try a hoop on? I doubt it.

Another problem I have with walking around the house is the cat who REALLY likes the flowyness of the dress. Lol

Good point, I don't know maybe you could buy one and make sure that if you don't like it or it doesnt work then you can get your money back! If you aren't sure which one your dress needs, you could always take a photo in or something and they should be able to help you out.

Haha, didn't even think of that... will have to keep my dress away from kitty cat claws when I find it! lol

i will be wearing high shoes coz my h2b is 6ft 2 and i am only 5ft, but i am used to wearing high shoe but am still worried as my dress is very heavy. I would say pratice walking in them heals and take a pair of flats with you for the evening, Another way to make yourself look taller is to have you hair up and high to five yourself a bit more height. good luck with the shoes. x

i wore heels and by the end of the night i was walking around with no shoes on cos they hurt my feet so much, which didnt help when me n nath was doin our 1st dance cos he kept standin on my feet lol, if ur gonna wear heels and ur not used to0 them then u are best off taking a spare pair of flats, i was on my feet for pretty much the entire day, so it also depend on weather u will be sitting down a lot or standing up a lot xxx

Roxy-blade - I too have a cat that loves my dress and everytime I try it on she sits on the train! I'm sure it will be covered in cat hair by the time I get married! My H2B is only a couple of inches taller than me so slight problem wearing high heels, but trouble is (as I put in another post earlier today...) my dress is an inch or so too long and cant be altered due to the decorative hem so might have to get higher shoes. Shame as I have the loveliest wedding boots to wear that are really comfortable :(

at 5ft 1 and a half inches (yes that half is important!!) i need the extra height to help me be a wee bit taller. As to walking in them.... its possible but i look like ive already been on the booze, like yourself i'm worried of maybe tripping or falling over, but all those that know me wouldn't expect anything less. On the bright side if i do fall or stumble it will make for some interesting wedding pics :) xoxox

Ps i am wearing my shoes around the house as much as possible to try and give me the heads up so to speak

Rainykins - My sister says that half an inch is very important too. Lol.

Jane - Can you not get a hoop skirt thingy to lift your dress a bit?

Vicky - I have a pair of white flip flops in my "emergency bag" along with my make up. Lol. But we are only having a meal in a local restaurant, so no dancing or anything, so not sure if I will need them :)

I am wearing the shoes as much as I can, but I have a wooden floor in my kitchen/living room and am worried I'm going to scratch the floor again so can only really wear them while walking around the hallway and bedroom. Lol

At 5'9" I wont be wearing heels as h2b is only 2" taller than me and when we go for nights out and I wear my heels I always end up taller than him which is not usually a problem but I dont want it to look stupid on the wedding photos lol xx

Roxy i have a wooden living room floor and the rest is hard tiles with carpet over the top ( i dont dare fall over on anything other than the wood flooring - would hurt too much)
I'm afraid i dont have any suggestions for stopping the wood flooring from scratching, but you could look at it being agood cause as your breaking in your wedding shoes, albeit that being the most important day of yours and h2b's life ;)

Edit* had an after thought as much as i have wood floors etc, our venue has plush carpets, i'm thinking no amount of practice is gonna help there as i struggled to stand straight when i had the darn shoes on when going to have my dress put in for alterations (i'm beginning to think personal liabilty insurance maybe the way i should go hehe)

At nearly 6ft tall I don't usually wear heels, especially as H2B is (and I'm being generous here) 5ft 6! I will be wearing heels on my wedding day. I have to learn to walk in them but I have them already so I think 13 months should be enough practice.
My main worry is that we will look silly with me towering over him. I don't know why it's sniggered at but fine if it's the other way round.
I have been told that I'm not allowed to wear heels for our first dance though.

Well i am 5'3 and martyn is 6'4 and a bit. When we go out i always wear heels but they hurt so much. I have found some little ones i love and i am getting them. Roxy you could put a sheet around your waist and walk around your hallway and bedroom. That way your dress will be aboutt he same lenght as the sheet and your wood floor safe. If your venue has wood floor i would sujest going there for a little while with your shoes and walk around the area you are in.

If that wont work you might have to find smaller heels. Have you got a picture of them.

I was also going to suggest a hoop for your dress that way you could walk around with the hoop over your everyday clothes and the shoes on just to get used to them. As for them hurting your feet you can get little gel cushions for your shoes to stop the balls of your feet hurting. xxx

I think getting a hoop is a great idea as then it will kick out your dress a bit and you will find it easier to walk then

I wore a hoop under my dress as I wanted the full A Line effect of it (my pics are in the album Our Wedding Day) & I wore 4 inch heels as Adam is 5'11' & I'm only 5'3'' so wanted to look taller then a little short person on the day LOL.

The hoop was great, although for some things it was a bit disatrous, my train, during the first dance almost tripped him up as we danced on a carpet so it did not more around as it should have done LOL.

The gel cushions are great too, I bought moleskin ones from the Scholl range at Boots & they were fantastic & lovely & soft too!

i'm 5'3 and h2b is 6'something. am wearing kitten heals and then have a pair of pink converse to change into (i think it would confuse h2b and our friends if i was in heels any longer than necessary - very much not a heels girl!)

I've got a hoop and 4.5 inch heels. I'm always in heels so hopefully it won't course too much of a pain for me, gel cushions are fab and a must have i reckon. Practice walking around the house in them when h2b is out, firstly to get used to them and secondly to break them in x x
