I know usually brides have a maid of honour but well, my best friend is a man, so I'm having a best man.

What I'm wondering is how to include him as much. He's quite into fashion so he's more than up for dress and shoe shopping, so that's not an issue. Obviously I'll be buying the girl's dresses and shoes, and then getting their hair and makeup done on the day.

With regards to my best man, should he match the groom and groomsmen, or should he match my bridesmaids? Most likely they will be colours that obviously match one another anyway, but do you think it will look out of place on photos and he'll look like one of the groomsmen? Or do I give him something distinctive to his suit that clearly indicates he's with the bride, like a different buttonhole? but then equally, because it's different, would it then look like he might be the groom?

Also the girls are getting a few treats like their hair, makeup and nails done and well, my best friend is bald. He does however have a beard. There is a vintage type barbers nearby who do hot towel beard shaping with traditional razors and oiling, conditioning etc. Would that be seen as sort of the male equivalent to getting your hair done for a bald bearded man?

    Any opinions much appreciated.

hey, I'm not having a best man or bridesmaids, Im having a equal bridal crew of 5 men and 5 women :) I'm letting them wear whatever they like and they doing own make up and bits so cant offer much advice. But i think its nice for him to have something different than groomsmen as he is your MOH (Man of Honour) I doubt it could look like he is the groom as surely everyone will know who the groom is ? and in photos im sure it wont look like he the groom either.. I think that's a nice idea with the vintage barbers, I think he would appreciate the thought behind it :)

Love the idea of having a best man! I think if it was me I would have him dressed differently to the groomsmen just to make him stand out as the best man.. it would be nice if maybe he had a pocketfold to match the bridesmaids or something to "tie" him in?

The vintage barbers is a good idea and I'm sure he would really appreciate that. Would he be into a spa day? x

I'm not having a best man but I am having a best Maid, my best friend is so ungirly she would be much more comfortable in a suit and I wouldn't force her to wear a dress. She would have been my maid of honor as she is my right hand girl but she lives 2 hours from me where as my other best friend lives 5 min walk away from me so she's my MOH and my other friend is my best maid.
I'm not sure as to what she will wear yet, it makes sense to have her dressed the same as the groomsmen but if I can find a way to tie her suit in with the bridesmaids dresses then I'll do that, maybe see if I can make her a tie out of the bridesmaids dress material?

I think it is a fab idea. My friend did not have a father to walk her down the aisle and she did not want her Mum to do it so she got her gay friend to do it. He was so proud doing the job.

Oh that's lovely Glitterfairy :) I did consider having mum *and* dad walk me down the aisle but my dad's face was a picture! I think he wants that job all to himself...

I think I will deffo book him in at the vintage barbers then :) The pocket fold is a good idea, Flossie. We're doing sort of... well, it's a half formed idea, I grant you, but currently I'm thinking like land and sea. We've got a wanderlust/travel theme and I want to put the Bridesmaids in sky blue sort of colour and then the groomsmen is sort of bronze/burnished yellow/orange kind of colour, so if I make sure he has a blue pocketfold, tie and waistcoat maybe?

Everyone does know who the groom is, I know :) I just didn't want it to look strange in photos. So much so I considered also having my brother as another addition to the bridal party, or as he put it "A bridesbro"...

Nice not to be the only one,OwlandtheButterfly! xx

Could you have him in same as the best man ect but a different colour tie that matches the bridesmaids or something to make him stand out? My oh was talking about having a best woman as he not really got any close male mates and I don't have an issue with it other than the fact we haven't seen this lady for over 2 years and she didn't even come to our engagement and only gave excuse when he chased her up!! So has annoyed me. X

Nope, not at all! There's a lot of us about and quite normal :) No difference to having a maid of honour except they are in a suit! Our best friend is ours and his been fantastic, couldn't fault him. Remember the phrase; your wedding, your way :) x
