I've just realized I'm going to have to sell some stuff to make up the rest of the money for the wedding so it's bye bye iPad and some of my x boyfriend jewelry :( Is anyone else having to sell things to afford to get married? x

Oh no hun, hope you're not having to get rid of too much and only things you are happy parting with.

Luckily H2B and I are getting a lot of help from his dad and my parents so we only have to pay a third of out wedding as my parents are giving us a third and his dad also giving a third so we can afford the wedding we want.

    xx

We will be having a clear out to fund some little extras, but hoping not to have to sell things we don't want to.

The trouble is, the amount of money second hand stuff makes its hardly worth it for us...we have avoided getting anything new for ages as we will be getting new stuff after the wedding, so most of our stuff is crap anyway xx

The beauty of this site is that so many brides on here are managing to plan and arrange their weddings on a tight budget which means you can pick up lotsa tips and not have to spend much and still have an amazing special day xx

    ^^^^good post!

I don't know what I'd have done without this site lol! Xx

We're in the fortunate position where if we are a few hundred quid short, our parents will lend it to us (within reason). We don't think we will do, but it's nice to have that extra piec of mind

The ladies on here have certainly stopped me spending more than I have done so far. A few things they suggested was too expensive so I got other quotes which worked out far cheaper.

Clothes, old laptops, phones and cameras, some old jewellery, OH records which he doesn't use anymore.

However we aren't looking at it as selling stuff to afford the weddin, we are looking at it as making room for our new life together.

Ages ago my mum gave me first engagement ring (from her marriage to my dad, she paid for it so didn't 'give it back' to him), she suggested that I use that and the wedding band that went with it to help offset the cos of our wedding rings. Trouble is, jewellers I've been to so far will only weigh it in, even though the diamond must be worth something in itself...
So in the mean time I'll be selling other things too x

I have considered selling two rings that I got from my ex. One is an 18ct gold with 5 diamonds (almost like a half eternity ring) and another 9ct gold with a small saphire and two tiny diamonds either side. My FIL2B is a jewellery salesman (retired but still knows his stuff and people in the trade) who said that I won't get much for it, prob not even £100 for the two so I'm not sure that cash wise it's really worth it as I know how much was paid for them.

I have no attachment at all to these rings anymore even if the 18ct diamond ring was a 21st birthday present from my ex and TBH I think H2B will be really pleased to see them go.

If I could get a decent price for them I'd happily sell as would be nice to have a little more cash.

Unfortunately the only part that is worth anything an the moment is the metals used to make them! They dont give you anything for the stones as they are still easily supplied! xx

    Oh poo!
Oh well, I might take them to a good jeweller who can melt them down and make something else out of them for me.

hi indreamland i sold my ex-engagement ring and wedding for a deposit on my dress.

However the most i got was a couple of hundred as i was told they only give value the weight of it, and a ring is not that heavy! but do shop around though

    Thanks MrsRoss2b.
If I can get them made into something else I'll be happy, it's just I will never wear the rings ever again and have no sentimental attachment to them either. Also, H2B I think would rather I was rid of them. He asked me if I had any other jewellery from my ex. I told him that I had a pair of 18ct white gold gucc! earrings but there was no way I was getting rid of them! He understood thank goodness.

I have been thinking about this but I don't think I've actually got anything worth selling! Was considering selling my clarinet seeing as I haven't played it in god knows how long but it has sentimental value...

Will see closer to the time. If I get desperate, I will do it :) I can always get another clarinet at a later date but I will never be able have another wedding day!
