Hi, was wondering if anyone else was considering a black tie / bow tie wedding? We are looking to have a late as possible wedding followed by a dinner dance for want of a better description with live swing band. I am really ill so cannot stand never mind dance so this way I get to enjoy the music without being drowned out by a disco. We love this style of music / clothes etc so it would fit with a vintage feel and the ballroom where we are looking to hold it. My mum is concerned that men wont have the suits but most of our friends do and we kind of feel if we mean that much to guests they will make the effort...any opinions?

Perhaps that could be part of your theme so people will have a good time and enjoy your wedding because they are expecting it to be this kind of event. Weddings with themes where the guests are fully involved in making it happen e.g. dress cose etc. work really well
Best of luck and if you go for it i would love to see pics of your big day as it sounds fab xxx

Thats what we think but my mum is a complete worrier! I mean ladies go out and buy a new outfit for special occasions and the men generally get off very lightly!

I think that is a fab idea! And just think how elegant your photos will look xx

well i am sure they have a suit and can get hold of a cheap bow tie so its not overly expensive and they still look the part :) xxx

I feel it is such a long way off! As we know I cannot manage 2 receptions it will have to be one really big one and the venue is causing a problem as ideally it needs to be a hotel where we can get married really late, has rooms so I can rest when needed but has wheelchair access, character and oh yes..not too expensive ha ha! Richard is being wonderful but everywhere he has looked at is not ideal as the compromise will be the number of guests or the venue. Whatever happens at least the dress code might make it feel like more of an occasion!

We are having a black tie wedding as it really really suits our venue we have also said on our invites for our reception back home that its black tie optional as the wedding party will be in their outfits again and i think it would be fab if all the male guests made an effort for our evening do as well xx
