So far we have booked the church, bought our rings, chosen colours and theme, started making bouquets and centre pieces, decided on reception venue, catering option (yet to decide on caterers) and provisionally booked the DJ.
What has everyone else done so far?
CommentAuthorFlossie
Meeeee!
We have booked the venue, registrar, harpist, DJ, photographer and arranged the transport - the dad of one of my bridesmaids has a VW Camper and seems cool with the idea of lending it to us for the day. I'm not even too bothered about actually travelling in it, I would just love it for the photo opportunities!
We have been taking a bit of a break from wedding planning for the last few months now. We are going to The National Wedding Show next Friday so will hopefully get lots of inspiration there and looking to resume serious wedding planning in the new year. We have all our ideas now and know what we currently like, but don't want to sort out all the little detail-y things too early in case we have a change of heart at all.
We have just been on holiday so we need to resume the wedding saving before we do anything else!!

How exciting! I was so very confused when we started planning, looking at so many packages, I just didn't know where to start and even considered running away to do it and telling everyone afterwards! Once we decided what was most important to us (inviting our ENTIRE massive family, we looked into ways we could make that possible and decided on a huge village hall. We are both quite creative, so it meant we can put our own stamp on it and make it very personal.
Do you find people are quite surprised when you are booking things so far in advance? I want to make sure I get what I want before it gets booked up, but North Devon is notoriously laid back and relaxed, I am not sure people expect it. Also seems the sensible way to spread costs to me!!
CommentAuthorFlossie
No actually I find the complete opposite! When I phoned to book our DJ I was like 'I know it's really early, but....' and he said no not at all and that he had even been taking books for 2017 and that I wise to get it booked up as early as possible! Our venue was also taking bookings for 2017. It was important for us to get these things booked up ASAP - no point sitting back and potentially losing out on something you want! And like you say, it's a great way to spread the costs and means you won't have a mad panic/stress closer to the time!

I did read several times that it's best to book well in advance. I enquired about marquees yesterday to line our indoor venue and the response contained the sentence "date dependent, we are already taking bookings for next year!" even the vicar was surprised when we booked a month or two ago! My fiance had wanted to book for next year but I was adamant it wasn't long enough to do the planning without being totally stressed out and missing out on the best! I may try to use it to my advantage and not mention the year to begin with so I can attempt to get next years prices!!

It's great talking to more people that are getting married in 2016. When I joined UKbride it was 24 months until I get married, now it's 20 and the last 4 months have gone really quick so I know it will be here before we know it so it's great to be organised :)

I'm planning on getting married on 3rd June 2016. I'm in touch with a wedding planner (in Gibraltar) and I've looked at dresses online. As there won't be any guests and he doesn't know anything about it yet ;) that's as far as I've got.
We've talked about getting married but don't want to get engaged first. We are planning to move to Dubai and need to be married to live there, but marriage is more important than that, it's not just to facilitate the move. So the plan is that I propose on Feb 29 next year and I will have the wedding planned already! That probably sounds a bit weird or too controlling but we have discussed marriage and agreed some things between us.
CommentAuthorEmily17
Hi Lilac, you done need to be engaged at all to get married. It's more of a commitment to each other that it will happen (or at least that's how I see it).
So if you don't want to get engaged then there is no need.

We're getting married 11 September 2016 in the Lake District.
I like to be well organised, so I have the venue, photographer, hair/make up and flowers all sorted :-)
I have already found the invites, mens suits, bridesmaids dressed etc, just need to actually pay for them all in next few months, then hopefully will be just the little things to sort!
