My SIL2B had her dress made in Essex and including the material cost around £250-300 I think.

I WON a compition to have my dress designed for me unfortantly to make it would have cost near 2k :-( so im not having that lol

Have you got a picture in mind, if so do you know of the lady who makes dresses for a china website but is actually in england??
a lot of ladies on here have used her and are thrilled with the standard of work she does.

So what did you get instead Hails? Did she make you an evening/special occasion dress anyway? Or was it just the design and not the making you won? Gutted though :o(

I'm making my flower girl dresses, a very simple design, and I've costed them up at about £20-30 each with some very careful placement of pattern pieces on the material and a bit of haggling on material prices. I've been practicing with making dresses for my daughter in the same design but with some inexpensive cotton fabrics. I'm not exactly the best seamstress but with practice and patience I seem to have come out with some fabulous results.

Thanks Gembo, I just don't see the point in spending £100 on something I like but don't love when I can make something perfect myself for a little less money

The couple of dressmakers I spoke to at wedding fairs who make wedding dresses from scratch told me that they tended to work with you to figure out a design and material combination to fit your budget, so it's difficult to say exactly how much it would be as it would depend very much on what sort of thing you wanted.

I've popped a couple of pictures of my practice dress on my profile under 'Flower Girl Dress' I know its a fairly simple design but that means its easy to suit to anyone and easy to scale up or down. Total cost for that dress made in 100% cotton was about £7/8. I think if I use the satin I want and use a lining material I should easily be able to make it for under £30, and like I said, I'm not exactly the best seamstress.

Hope that gives you an idea of basic cost.

I'm making both adult bm dresses and the flowergirl dress as well and the material isn't the absolute best but will look fine, long halterneck for the adults will work out about £10 each and same for flowergirl! Also doing the waistcoats, about 6 at the moment incl 2 pageboys and the whole lot will come in under £80 (including bm's) xx
