I am hoping to emulate some of our other crafty brides on here and make my own wedding invites (we were going to have a friend do them, but unfortunately she has been very lately and has a lot going on in her life ATM, so we don't want to out her under any pressure)
I am having wallet style invitations which are wallets 12.5 cm square. I have already got the wallets online pre creased and I love them.... Worked out about 30p per invite! I am planning on sticking a nice patterned paper around three quarters of the way up, with a ribbon going round at the top of the paper and a pearl style heart buckle on the ribbon (I have the buckles already too).
There will then be an insert giving all the wedding details and an insert with all the RSVP details on too. I am planning on punching a hole in the top and tying them together with a nice bit of ribbon, which will also make it easier to pull them out of the wallet.
Was planning on printing the inserts onto card myself - do I need to use a special type of card?
The first insert will have the word 'w e d d I n g' with a stick on diamanté between each letter - might be a bit fiddly. The second insert will be the same but saying r s v p obviously.
I'm not a naturally crafty person and haven't done anything like this before...
Is there any particular thing I should use for sticking down paper and ribbon? Have I missed anything? Is there any particular piece of kit or tools that I need, or would be useful?
If anyone could highlight any potential pitfalls or have had any issues that came up from their own invite making, I would be grateful if they let me know...I'm a total novice at this sort of thing so any info would be very helpful!
Thanks ladies
Xx

One of the girls here recommended gem tac for sticking gems, and it's good stuff, Ive also got myself a glue gun - which I haven't used yet. But those are some things you could look into?
I'd assume any kind of card would be ok. I've bought some I like the look of and am hoping for the best when it comes to printing on it!

I got some little diamantes from bay of e they come with adhesive on and using tweezers were quite easy to apply either side of the word which is the way i used them, the only thing I would say about the card is the higher the gsm the thicker and firmer it would be, i bought two lots, make a prototype and that will give you a good idea if you need to tweak anything before doing them all x I found that prit stick was good if the ribbon is not see through - but you can also get some good adhesive spray but make sure you do it from a good distance or it will mark the ribbon and paper/ card x good luck x

Sounds like you have a plan!!
I like Kelly got some gems off of the bay which are already adhesive so just have to stick them on. They are very good, cost like 99p for 50 sticky gems size 2mm.
When you decide to print your invites, if you do it on card you just have to be careful how heavy the card is, as it could get stuck in the printer or kill it all together! Just check in the instructions the suggested maximum dsm quality of the paper suitable for your machine.
Have fun with it, you may find your crafty side yet :) x
You don't marry someone you can live with -
You marry the person you cannot live without..
I would use double sided tape or tape pens on the paper rather than wet glue. I used adhesive gems on mine, which were really easy to pick up with the tip of a craft knife. Do your invites step by step. Put the paper on all of them first, then do the gems etc. Keep your work space clean and tidy.
Most of all........ Enjoy yourself!!!! :-)

I'm going to DIY my invitation have all of the material may need more wax and Dian=mantes thoe but my problem is H2B has not photoshopped the RSVP or Save the Date Cards plus his printer is S H I T and it will not print on my card I have bought or the pearlescent paper I have bought. He hasn't even tried to print the invitation out to test it It took me so long to even get him to o the Invitation so much for wanting to help me with the DIY Invites :( I'm using PVA glue to stick my stuff down got 3 60ml bottles for £1.50 should be enough glue sounds like your all systems go atm =D <3 X

I would avoid pritstick and wet glue for any paper or ribbons. I received an invitation where they'd used this and it was terrible, you could see where all the glue had been applied underneath which totally distracted you from the beautiful invitation. I found double sided sticky tape to be the best option when making my engagement cards.
You could use a pair of tweezers to help with the diamantes. I got cheap backing paper from the R4nge :-)

Just posted a website on lauraJo's wall a website that does a great range of papers and cards that I got my invite supplies from, they send free samples, cost delivery on weight and do discounts too. I was very pleased with the quality & price as I needed a3 double sided pearlescent card

someone else mentioned about picking the gems up with the end of a wet cotton bud to apply them - it works!
Also, never thought of the glue showing through the ribbon etc... *noted*

You could try it on a sample first, perhaps it would depend on the thickness of the card and the colour of the ribbon etc. but the invitation I received with white card was really bad :-/ x

I am a nail technician and when i use gems on my nail art, i use a cuticle stick dipped in water, great for picking up the gems if you don't have anything else to us.
I am also making my own invitations and getting great ideas from other company's and the net. I am not very creative lol so looking at other designs i can then piece together my own creation. xx

I made my invites and a tip for sticking gems on use silicon glue it's really good. For the ribbon I used double sided sticky tape. The bay is very cheap for craft stuff. You just have to look around. xx

yea you will want a glue that dries clear. :) You can get gems which have adhesive on already but extra glue is advised. My invites are on my photos :) x

The glitter was a bit of a worry to start making it look even.. I am really happy with them though especially since I made all 50 day invites and 40 evening invites for £30. The glitter I used clear drying pva mixed with water using a paintbrush and then a pepper shaker filled with glitter.. sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle.. I AM A BLING ADDICT LOL xx

Hi,
I made the above (today) :)
For the translucent paper I used spray glue as its clear, and I used a fabric glue for the ribbon and the heart embellishment! Was a bit fiddley but definitely worth it :)

They look really good Emma :)

Wow they're amazing!
What's spray glue? Where stocks it?
How long did they take? I think I am doing a simpler design for my evening invites, so will only need to do thirty day ones for fifty guests xx

Thanks all :)
The glue is "3M Craft Mount" my mum works in a college so bought it from the Art Dept! It's good stuff! Very sticky.
They have taken a long time to do, it took us about 2 hours to stick the pockets together using double sided sticky tape. There are 40! Another hour to cut the translucent paper and another to stick it to the picket and about 2 hours to do the ribbons and hearts. We only managed to get 10 finished with the ribbons and hearts, but all my stationary match so everything has the same paper etc!
So exciting!

Thanks guys...
So am I better off sticking them all together first, then doing all the cutting rather than doing it one at a time?
It's inspiring to see so many finished products that look just as good, if not better than the 'professional' ones xx

I'd say so, as you know where you are, but it is completely up to you and personal preference. I like to be quite organised with stuff like this lol!
I've been at it again tonight, making place cards that follow suit of the save the date!
