being that there are literally thousands of members on here, i thought that theres a good chance that one of you is a hairdresser/used to be etc.
Im in a pickle! I had dyed red hair that had faded out quite a bit, decided to be awkward and wanted to go blonde. Bought a hair stripper kit and although didnt work as well as i hoped, i was still fairly pleased with the result knowing red is hard to shift. Had a bit of a search and decided that the next thing to do was to use a pre lightener (left it a week to rest my hair) bought a garnier one and used it today, followed the instructions to the letter and im devasted with the result, instead of an all over mid to dark blonde that i expected (after looking at the colour chart thing on the box etc) i have very light blonde roots, with a few odd light brown patches (my natural colour) and the lengths and tips are orange/ginger! I look awful!!!!
The next step of my plan was to use the john frieda dye that ive already bought, to get the shade i wanted. But im not sure if i need to do another step in between first or what. The dye ive got is colour 9n called light natural blonde. i dont want to waste it if its unlikely to take, but i NEED to get rid of this orange! I'd rather not go to the hairdressers but will do if its the only option.
I have sent an email to the john frieda site asking for advice, but thought id ask here too as im think i'll get a reply here a bit quicker if there is someone about who can help.

If you need a pic to see the extent of it before giving me some advice i will (all be it, whilst cringing) post a pic

    any help welcome
    kirsty xxx

Not a hair dresser but considering what you have just put your hair through I would go to an expert now as you could risk your hair breaking and falling out if you keep messing with it.

OH has already said if i want/need to go to the hairdressers now then not to worry about the cost so could do that and save the dye ive got for when i next need to do it. never had a problem with dyes etc before so am not a happy bunny and will be writing a negative review about it, its says on the box it can be used on all hair colours all the way through to black! mine was brown with reddish hint and it didnt do what it was meant to. thanks for the advice

I have had this issue where i have dyed my hair ginger too many times. Go to a hairdresser and get it highlighted properly to correct it and once done and roots start coming through you can dye your hair at home. Pre lighteners can work well but sometimes if you have thick hair to ensure it is even you need two boxes and then if you leave it on too long because where you first apply it it ios on longer you can have lighter patches

Go see a hairdresser and they will correct it so it looks how you want and then you can continue to do it yourself when it is settled back to your natural colour of your roots x

    Does'nt sound very good. :(
Aint a hairdresser, but when I was going from black to blonde took me ages. Didnt want to mess up hair, so done it quite slow... First : colour remover, then in few months : blonde highlights, after that: colour. (was quite ginger at one point, just got used to it)
Can try some purple shampoos or something like that, but if they are very ginger it might not work.
I would try some colour remover again, just on ends...
Take your time if possible, and use some good hair masks/conditioners.
    U will get blonde eventually!

thats the weird thing, following the instructions i put it on the lengths and tips first, leaving it for 30 mins, then put the rest on the roots and massaged it in, leaving for another 35mins. but rather than the lengths being lighter than the roots, the roots are really light but the lengths arent? logic doesnt seem to apply to it :S strange! think i may well go to the hairdresser then, and save the dye ive got for next time around- im never going to a dark colour again, too much hassle lol

The trouble with hair dye is that it is so easy for it to go wrong..... Just hope you manage to get it sorted soon. You won't be the first one to be pink/green/ginger

im sure theres plenty of people who have ended up with dodgy coloured hair from dying going wrong, lol! at least its still winter so can get away with wearing a wooley hat to hide it haha. doesnt help that the h2b, my mum, dad and brother all thought it was the funniest thing in the world!

The john frieda purple shampoo is brilliant for helping to lighten dyed hair - helped my highlights quite a lot because I am naturally very dark so when i went blonde this boosted my highlights loads so could even out your hair colour if you wanna give it a try. Plus it's good for when you have salon colour highlights on as can make you a pale blonde if you wish or just make your highlights shinier and blonder depending on how much you use.

I would def recommend getting a hairdresser to correct it though after numerous run ins with home colouring and the odd shades I have shocked rob with :D x

im a hairdresser and the best option u have is to go to a hairdressers and let them sort it for u. sooo many home dye kits are crap and i have seen so many go wrong, because your hair was initally red u wud of had a lot of build up on it even though it had faded( ive got dyed red hair too), therefore leaving u with bright roots and darker ends. if you were a customer of mine and came into the shop i would first do a strand test(because you have dyed your hair a few times with strong chemicals i wud want to make sure that your wud not be damaged any further) then if the strand test went of i wud put a blonde bleach on the ends of your hair to match them up with your root, if you are unhappy with the colour of your roots you could then opt to have some low lights put in to break it up a bit until you get the colour you want. the lowlights do not have to be a dark colour you could go for a soft caramel. hope this helps xx

thanks for all the advice girls, much appreciated. much quicker response than i would get from the website too, knew you'd be great help!!!
think i will pop to the hairdressers and see what they suggest next, not sure if the roots are a bit too light for what i want, but hard to tell next to the ginger lol
thanks again, your all stars! xx
