Well, some of you may remember I posted recently about having a wedding cake made out of cheese as part of the evening buffet.

Or maybe as an alternative to the wedding cake, I'm not sure.

But looking at prices, I was thinking it would be a lot cheaper to make my own...

Has anyone done this? Do wheels of cheese come in standard sizes? Can you buy quarter wheels?

    Xx

Bumped a thread for you on money saving tips and ideas, about half way down someone talks about ordering a cake of cheese directly from the factory. It was only 80 quid so may be cheaper than going to your local market and ordering the cheese.

I used to work on the cheese cake at a well know green supermarket starts wit the letter A - if you order well in advance you can order wheels of cheese from the deli counter. Well, at least you could 6 years ago! May want to check if they still do it. xx

I saw one made like this - Another idea was pork pie cakes or like the cupcake style but with little jellies!

Laura, you can def order direct from the companies
Or specialist garden centre's that have nice foodie sections, we are lucky to have one in Peterborough.

We were a little sneaky, went to a specialist cheese shop not too far from where we live for a tasting & quote
Found the 4 cheeses we wanted, she wrote them down and quoted us £220
JUST for the cheese, crackers, chutneys, grapes etc would all be extra

We shopped around a bit and could get all 4 cheeses direct, in the sizes we wanted pretty easily.
What we also did though, was contact our venue, they spoke with the chef who did some homework for us and they can get the cheeses we want, in the sizes and provide all the crackers, chutneys, grapes & celery plus stack & decorate it etc for £175!!!!!!!

Result & we are chuffed to bits as its one less thing for us to worry about and something else ticked off the list.
If you need any more help, give me a shout xx
