Good afternoon girls! Hope your all well. I was just having a chat with an old friend of mine who is a DJ, has a band and runs his own lights company.. He's given me a quote of 720 quid for 2 two hour slots and DJing in between slots and all the lights. I have no idea if that is good or not but some other friends reckon thats about right, although if they were just doing a pub gig they'd only charge 100 quid lol drives me mad!! Anyway, I've heard a medley of there tracks on there website but thats it, I haven't heard them live. I asked when his next gigs are and he gave me a list but said tickets are all sold out so I'd struggle to get in but he's offered to arrange a band rehearsal that I could go along to, do you think thats any good??? I asked if he could provisionally book me in and he said he'd be able to do that but would need 200 quid deposit within 4 weeks. I dont HAVE to have a band I just thought it would be pretty cool but it seems alot of money to pay out just because it seems cool lol. Any advice on what I should do??? xx

Yeah a band rehearsal would be a great way to hear them and see if they are any good. I would say the price is about average for a band. We couldn't have one due to the room size etc so we are having a live swing singer although they come in different styles. He sings live to the music and then does the DJing in between sets. He comes in at £400 and travels UK wide for the price of diesel.

I think I'm gonna have to have a chat with h2b and decide if we really want a band or if we're just getting a band for the sake of it! But if we decide we're going with it, then I will go along to a rehearsal. My venue is huge and the dance floor is massive so theres plenty room for a band and I think something needs to fill it! I'm just not sure if its alot of money when DJing does the same thing lol xx

A live band gives a totally different atmosphere and can make the night amazing but it all depends on how good they are, what they sing etc. You could always find one that sings to the music if you want the live feel without the expense. I found all sorts from rock, pop, swing, jazz etc so they suit all tastes.

    that is alot of money!!

my dad is in 4 differnet bands. one of them is a well known tribute band and that isnt far off to what they charge. where as the other bands he is in charge on between £200 and £400 depending on which band it is in.

my dad has travelled all over europe playing in bands and with a lot of famous people and they didnt charge that much was well known bands!!xx

I would have liked a band too but don't think we can afford it really. We are having war time songs playing during the food, and it would have been great to have a band do something like that with modern stuff too for the evening, but think we are going to stick to a dj, don't want to go over our budget! Good luck! :) x

one of the bands is a deep purple tribute band, called 24ct purple.

one plays rocky music...this taken from their website Burn is a high quality rock covers band playing classic songs originally performed by bands and artists such as Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, Argent, Bad Company, ZZ Top, Rainbow, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Free amongst many others. 2008 was Burn's 15th anniversary during which, over these many years they have toured the UK and continent extensively.

they have done a lot of weddings/ parties in the past.

there is also a due called back to back...Back 2 Back are a pop, blues and rock covers duo covering a very wide range of music from Amy Winehouse and Anastacia to Rainbow and Whitesnake, with the aid of high quality backing tracks.

24ct purple were the headlining act at deep purple festival couple of years ago and richie blackmore heard my dad play and said he was one of the best guitarist he has heard!!

if interested i can give you my dads number xx

Can you post me the the websites and the number and I'll take a look.. I like the idea of both but I think the second one would probably be best, bit of everything to keep everyone entertained, rock would be great but not sure the oldies would be amused! lol xx

Me and h2b had a chat AGAIN and I think we're just going to go with the original band we were looking out. 750 sounds expensive but when you think about it, theres 5 of them, they will DJ between sets and they are bringing there own light set up and stage background plus they will let us use there mics for speeches.. all in all its quite good! Thasnks for your help though hun xx
