Hi there,
I'm from Aberdeenshire and got married in July this year at Kintore Church then had our reception at the Airport Thistle Hotel in Dyce, Aberdeen. So I thought I would post just to say if any of you need help with your wedding planning eg suggestions of local businesses to buy flowers, invites, tiara, etc etc then just give me a shout on here and I will try and help if I can. I would highly recommend visiting the next wedding exhibition at the AECC as I got lots of info there before I started planning my own wedding. xx
26th December 2007 - the day I met my special man
8th August 2008 - the day he was mad enough to propose to me
24th July 2010 - the day I felt beautiful inside and out and
became Mrs Dickie for life. xx
CommentAuthorreidzer1
There is one at the AECC in Jan i think,,,looking forward to going! xx
CommentAuthorspooney24

How was your special day Spooney? Great i hope!! The airport Thistle is suppossed to be reall nice for receptions!
xx
CommentAuthorspooney24
Thats sounds fab reidzer (I take it your last name is Reid, mine was before I got married), the Norwood is gorgeous as I have been there before for a wedding reception.
My day was the best day I have had in my life so far I think, we had a gorgeous sunny day, everyone was smiling and having fun and I got to marry my bestest friend. The hotel was really good, very well organised and kept us on track and the food was delicious.
One thing to organise quite soon I would say is the band if you are having one as we struggled to get one for a while but luckily managed to book a fab ceilidh band who did us proud. xx

Hi! I'm from BODon and getting married 26/08/2012. Reception at Maryculter House. We've had the date booked for ages but only just starting the rest of the planning now! Exhibition at AECC is 15th and 16th, £10 a ticket. There's one at the Britannia Hotel on the 9th as well. It's free I think.
Norwood is beautiful. My friend is having her wedding there (when her OH gets round to proposing lol!) and we had it on our shortlist.

Yeah we shortlisted Norwood too. It is beautiful :) almostmrswood I'm from BODon too :) planning on going to the AECC wedding exhibition in a couple of weeks. should be good i think xx
CommentAuthoralmostmrswood
Oh I'm so excited! Now I've got Xmas and New Year out of the way I can get on with my planning. My OH is no use though. I ask his opinion and he says 'If you like it baby, then I'm happy' !!!! Love him to bits but wish he'd be a bit more decisive lol.
We're thinking about having a ceilidh band. Does anyone have any idea roughly how much they are?
CommentAuthorlinzi
we have gone for Eclipse, as they were recommended by my venue. And have only heard great things about them. They cost £1100 via an agent. Which I now think is a bit much for a 3 piece band, but the deposit is paid already!
have also heard good things about Ceilidh Minogue and Ernest
I don’t repeat gossip so listen very carefully!!
Started Slimming World - 23/03/2011 - 2 Stone to lose!
Total Loss = 1 stone 7 lbs.
As at 23/11 - 3 days before the wedding.

I would recommend the one we had as although we had only heard a cd of theirs before booking them, they did us proud and got everyone dancing on the night. Their lead singer also is the dance caller so it really helped for those that were unsure of the ceilidh dances. They are The Hale Jingbang and we booked them through a local agent for £950. Can give you the details if you wish. xx

Yeah any band suggestions would be good. We heard 'The Reeling Stones' at an exhibition and really liked them but I haven't managed to find out a price for them yet xx
CommentAuthorspooney24
You can get a price for The Reeling Stones mrs_rothnie2b through Elite Promotions who are the agent for them.

yeah I e-mail the band directly and thats who they have directed me to, I just haven't got round to contacting them yet. Thank you though :) xx
CommentAuthorspooney24
Ah right no worries. My eldest niece sings in a band (they do cover versions of songs with a backing track) and they are also through Elite Promotions, they are called "Hot 'N' Kickin" and are really good (although I am biased!). xx

Hi,
I'm totally new to this but I'm from Aberdeenshire and I'm looking for a bit of advice on venues! Has anyone had any experiences of Ardoe House? I really love the ball room but I haven't heard many reports about the food. Can anyone help?
CommentAuthor~*~ Becca ~*~

Hi Fee I have been to a wedding at Ardoe and the food was gorgeous from what I can remember. It was my mate Allys second marriage and she got married there on the patio outside and then we had the meal after photos in the room next to the patio. The staff seemed good and made sure things ran smoothly.
Wherebouts in Aberdeenshire are you from? xx

Im from Torphins. I'm guessing you're from the Kintore area?!
I'm getting married at Torphins Church so I dont want to travel too far from there to the venue. Was it a recent wedding you were at?
CommentAuthorFeeWil
I did ask for a bar tarriff when we were there so I noticed the drinks were expensive but it seems like most places around there seem to be the same. Thanks Becca
CommentAuthorspooney24
I'm from Inverurie so yes you were very close. The wedding at Ardoe I was at was a year and a half ago so things may have changed a bit since then. The only venues I know of out your way is the Raemoir House Hotel but have never been to a wedding there. The Maryculter House Hotel is lovely too and isnt too far from Torphins. xx

Raemoir was my ideal location because James is from Echt but it's not big enough. I haven't even looked at Maryculter because my cousin was married there after Torphins church! Thanks for the thoughts on Ardoe though.
CommentAuthorspooney24
I know this may be a strange question but does James have a sister called Claire? The only reason I ask is cause I know some people from around the Echt area as my sis and bro in law live on a farm near Echt. xx

We're getting married at Maryculter House! I've been out there for lunch twice and both times it was set up for weddings. Looked beautiful and I fell in love with it. H2b has been to a wedding there and says everything was brilliant (from what he can remember!). Prices are alright, especially if you go with one of the packages.
Book soon though.... they're a popular choice!
CommentAuthorFeeWil
Haha, it is a small world indeed Spooney! I'm friendly with all of them!
Thanks for the comments on Maryculter. I loved it when we were there for my cousins wedding but I really want something slightly different.
CommentAuthorspooney24
I know someone I used to work with from Banchory had her reception at the Marcliffe Hotel and hes was a large wedding. May be somewhere worth considering Fee. xx

Hi, just got engaged very recently and we're planning to get married next summer or October time - have not got a clue where to start! Will definitely go to the wedding exhibition at the weekend for some ideas. We're from the Stonehaven area and would like to get married around Royal Deeside. We won't be marrying in a church so hoping to find a nice stately home-type building to get married and have the reception. Have been to a couple of weddings at the Maryculter House Hotel and it's been perfect!
CommentAuthoralmostmrswood
Yeah FeeWil I re-read your previous comments and I agree, I would want something different x
CommentAuthormrs_rothnie2b
I have been to Ardoe but it was a few years ago. Food was lovely and the building is beautiful :)
Welcome Hammers and congratulations on your engagement :)

We're having a Sunday wedding at Maryculter House. Plus side is you often get packages from your venue and discounts from some suppliers as it's a quieter day. Down side is most people will have work on the monday, but hey ho that's not my problem lol!
