    Hi everyone,

My partner and I have been together almost 10 years and engaged for 2 now! We are planning our wedding for next August, and are trying to stick to a budget of £4k! We are having a church wedding with a reception in the grounds of a friends large home!

I am looking to do as much as possible myself to keep costs down, and have been looking at alternatives to a traditional flower bouquet, and really like the idea of a brooch bouquet, like the one below!

    ***************************************************

Has anyone ever made one and if so are they easy enough to do? Also, any ideas of places to find cheap but nice brooches to use please?

And if anyone has any other ideas for alternative bouquets please let me know!

Thanks for all your help girls
    Laura x

Try it out with a load of cheap brooches and ribbon first just as a practice run. Some websites are saying you have to tie them all together in a certain way blah blah but I am thinking why not try getting some sort of ball and either glue them to the ball, or perhaps put some material around the ball and try pinning them all to it. All you would need for the stem is some sort of cone shaped thing. Maybe a thin plastic funnel used in baking wrapped up in ribbon.

I reckon you could do this pretty easily!

A woman I know makes brooch bouquets in a simple version. She makes a bouquet out of foam roases, wraps the handle in ribbons and then pins brooches to the roses. Looks stunning and it's a lot easier than doing a full jewellery bouquet.

Does she pin the brooches to the centre of the roses? Do you have a sample picture of her work? I wouldn't mind doing something similar as my ceremony and party are two separate days so I'm thinking of stuff like this for me, my bms and flower girl.

Thanks for all the tips girls! I think I might look at using silk flowers as well! Seen one online where they used a plastic sieve to get the basic shape for a button bouquet, so not sure if I could adapt this! Just need to find loads of cheap brooches now - anyone know where to start?
    Thanks

Whilst looking for something this morning I came across Swarovski bouquets, thought thy were different. Some are quite hard to do, but others are pretty simple and you can buy them pretty cheap off the bay.

    Here is an example....

You could ask female members of the families if they had any old ones they'd like to donate/lend (although there is a chance you may feel obliged to include some you don't like)...
Other than that try charity shops, markets, car boots, popular internet auction sites
I got some from the bay, sparkly, good value... I'll pop the sellers I'd on my wall in a mo...

No hun they are all completly beaded, just beads and wires. The technique is called french flower beading and it's actually really easy to do! And quite cheap! You can get the wire for around £2 for 20 meters and 100g of beads for £2 too. I am making 6 hair pieces at the moment and with the headbands too it has cost me a grand total of £10! xx

I would try looking around charity shops too for nice cheap pieces of costume jewellery. Some charity shops these days are getting as expensive as certain chain stores but there are still the odd cheap charity shop about.
