    Hi all,

Just wondered what the etiquette was if you are having your photographers until the first dance? are you providing them with a meal and drinks or something seperate? only asking as its an extra 60-70 per head and I wasnt sure what to do.

    any help apprechaited

I know some people have offered to pay for a bar meal instead of a wedding breakfast.

Not too sure what were doing yet for ours.

Our photographer is a really good friend so he is on the all day guest list so we're catering for him but obviously thats because we know him, I'm not sure what would happen if we used someone else? We'd probably have to provide for them.

It is in our contract that we have to provide a meal, but not the same food as wedding breakfast, just a meal from the restaurant (this was much to my h2b disgust who thinks that they should bring sandwiches for the price were paying!) xx

There's another thread on this recently and the general consensus was that you should check the contract.

Have a search for the thread, some good comments on there xxx

depends are they going to be around the whole time?
went to a wedding in may, where photographer did all the prep/ceremony/official photos etc.. went away whilst we had the wedding breakfast, came back in the evening with some proofs of the mornings photos, think he came back with 4..just of the happy couple, then took first dance, evening guests, more informal photos and cutting of cake....xx

Have a look at contract, some expect, some don't.... I'm hoping mines gonna bring a pack up lol as I think u pay enough for ur photographer already without having to put another £50-£80 (depending on food bill) to cover an extra meal... I think it's outrageous x

My OH is a photographer, and DJ ,any events we cover ,we make sure the person in charge (bride, groom, host) knows how we work,we usually agree on photos wanted then leave until needed again ,and cater for ourselves, after all we consider it a job we are not a guest, even though some people offer,it saves that awkward feeling .

Our photographer informed us at our initial meeting they expected a meal as with us for over 12 hours so a long day. I'm sure your venue will charge less for them both as don't need 3 courses but just a main meal or a bar meal. Speak to the venue and see what they say xxx

I'd say definately offer a bar meal and don't forget a few drinks...I'm sure most wouldn't expect a three course wedding breakfast.

I didnt think of it being a job and they should cater for themselves. I guess Im too soft lol. It doesnt mention anything in the contract about meals either. Im only having fish n chips as a supper for the day guests, im sure he can eat that and still get some decent shots, then the night is a hot choice buffet so he can always help himself to that too x

thanks guys for your help. I will check the contract when i get home but i think i will offer them a meal in the resterant so they have some down time away from the wedding and see what they say. I was always accounting for refreshments such as drinks for them but wasnt sure on the food. However i did think that something needed to be provided in some way as its a long day for them and i know i will be hungry let alone them.

we were worried about this also as at over 100 per head and there is two photographers we were worried but they told us they would take their own break and bring butties and we said they could then help themselves to the buffet later on and they were fine with this.

we did have to feed the SQ though and our venue said rather than pay over 100 per head for 4 of them, pay 20 a head for sandwiches etc which we did.

I'm just thinking about the same thing. The photographer we really like said he normally does photos up until the reception then leaves, but is happy to do more and is up for negotiation, I'm hoping offering food will help. Worth a try, I met a photographer at a wedding fair before who said his guide hours and price but said if you feed me I'll happily stay longer. Whatever keeps people happy and gives me good photos.

I've got all day photography 12 noon til 9/10pm. I asked him when signing the contract if he wanted food/drink providing and he said no, and he'd never been asked before - he would go and eat when we did (as i dont want pics of my guests eating) But my cello player has it written into his contract that drinks of his choice are made available and anything over 3.5 hours then a meal is provided, reserved parking and a member of staff to carry his chair. xx

Interesting. Your cello player seems demanding. I'll just ask the photographer what he normally does, get an idea of what he's expecting.

I asked our photographer whether he needed us to provide him with a meal and he said no. I will let him pick at the canapés and have a drink though (if he wants them) on the day and I'm anticipating a guest or two will let us down on the day (many weddings have that problem) so if there is a meal going that we will have paid for I'll ask the venue to let him have it if he'll like it x

Generally this is in the contract if it's needed. If it is the venue can provide a vendor meal. The vendor meal can be sandwiches & crisps, it definitely isn't what you'll be having for your guests.

Ours didn't want anything although I did ask, she came at 1pm and stayed until we sat down to eat, she said she would only need something if there for the whole day but even then a bar meal would be more than sufficient!
