    Hi

We were looking to put on some alcohol for our evening guests as a thank you. My parents in law have offered to put some money behind the bar (can't afford to put on a free bar) but I thought that then those who get their first are likely to abuse it and get a load of free drinks to the detriment of the others.

I had the idea of printing a free drink voucher for each evening guest and presenting it to them when they arrive. Does this seem ok or fairer than the money behind the bar scenario?

    Thoughts please.

I think thats a fab idea as I have been to a wedding reception where they had drinks vouchers and they were sent out with the evening invitation. The venue printed them up for them too. xx

Sounds good to me, there's always some that take the mick and the nice ones then dont get any benefit so go for the vouchers.

I hadn't thought of it when sending out the invites so will need to get the vouchers to the guests on the day. Maybe having names written on the back or just asking people to go and see Richards mum for a voucher when they have come up to say hello? Not sure of best way to go.

You could always delegate someone in your bridal party to greet the evening guests and hand out the vouchers.

Welcome to Richard and Sarah’s wedding reception. Please have a celebratory drink on us.
Present this voucher to the bar for either a glass of wine, pint of beer or soft drink of your choice.

this is the wording i was going to use (with a picture on the top) . Is the wording ok?

How about this, my friends wedding was last year, in all the invitations she included a raffle ticket for each person, this was to be exchanged at the bar in the evening for a free drink. After that you had to buy your own. I thought it was a nice touch and got the party off to a good start

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

Brillant idea hunni Shame you only have two weeks tho as i agree about them going in with the invites!but im sure one of the ushers could hand them out for you as they go in for the wedding breakfast?

Were not buying any drinks except the welcome drink which will be hot chocolate (november wedding). We have a cash bar instead as every wedding ive been too the FREE drinks are always wasted, so ive saved myself nearly 2k

we keep toying wiht money behind the bar if we have any spare and like you are worried it will be abused. I think this is a great way to overcome it so each guest has a free drink. I would do it in the invites though instead

That is a good idea, I agree with them going in the invites tho, you don't want to be stood most of the evening handing out drink vouchers, as some people may be late, x
