How do I stop myself just spending all my days on the Internet looking at random wedding stuff but not achieving anything?! I keep jumping from one thing to another 'researching' stuff but no priority order! There I am searching through bouquet pics and ideas then I'll think about dressing the venue then I'll junp to cakes then men's suits! Aggghhhh I need a list of everything possible that might need doing for a wedding in chronological order of what needs to be done as a priority?! Can someone point me in the right direction of what they've used? So far I've got venue booked, dress ordered and enquired for quotes on hair an make up , cake and bouncy castle! There's no logic to my order! I keep thinking of stuff that needs doing all the time but get nowhere! :bangshead:

If you have a Pinterest account, search for Wedding checklists or a wedding planning timeline. Then you can find one that's best suited to your timeframe, pin it, and keep coming back to it whenever you need some real perspective on what you need to get done!
Have you booked your Registrar? Arranged wedding insurance? Picked a photographer? Picked a caterer? Arranged transport and accommodation? Designed a Wedsite for your guests? Signed up for a gift list/honeymoon fund? Arranged your invitations? Looked into places to get the best deals for alcohol IF providing your own? Organised the Bridal party attire? Looked at wedding rings? Thought about a honeymoon? Looked at any wedding shoes, accessories, jewellery, underwear, veil, tiara etc? Taken the boys to be measured for suits? Arranged meeting with florists? Arranged meeting with cake makers? Decided what centrepieces you're having and where to get them from? Chair covers? Any extra lighting or decorations? A band or DJ? Evening entertainment?
Hopefully if you have written down your budget, then you'll have a fair idea of what are the most important things to you, and you'll know where the bulk of your budget is going, once that's been bartered down to the last possible penny that you can afford on that section, start moving on to the less costly things, but important things, such as wedding insurance and registrar. Then move down to the next best thing, like dress or photographer. So long as you make a list of things that go from most important to least important, you should find it easier to arrange a system of how you want to go about organising things!

For an example, my most important thing (besides actually marrying the love of my life) is photographer. No matter what, having beautiful pictures that last way long after the date mean more to me than anything. Second, it's the venue, including catering and alcohol costs. After that, I will need to arrange wedding insurance, as if anything goes wrong in that time, I'll be covered, and at least it's out of the way. Then I will organise who will be performing my ceremony. Then it jumps straight to evening music, we want a band, so our next chunk will be on that. After that, it's my dress. Then his suit. Then the bridal party attire. Then the rings. Then the flowers (at least get a quote so you can haggle it down if it's too much). After that, it's a steady list of evening entertainment, transport, accommodation, dressing the venue (which takes a lot of organisation and phone calls, so you might want to get started with that one), then the less important things, like gift list, seating plan, invites, etc.
Honestly, check Pinterest! Sorry for the rambling btw, I just realised my essay is ridiculously long! X

This is ridiculously unromantic but I'm using a spreadsheet! I have the budget, whats paid for so far whats left to pay for. The guest lists, the table plan and a to do list - I find it quite satisfying when i go into it and tick something else off!

And Pinterest has given me lots of amazing ideas that I would never have thought of too!

I also spend my evenings hopping between researching different things and not actually buying things, but figure I only have to wait until Christmas then I can start ordering things!
Saying that we have already sorted the major things (venue, registrar, photographer, save the dates and invites, flowers, dresses, room decs, evening entertainment)!

I have so far booked ir organised nothing! I have enquirer to dates for the venue and I'm going along on Tuesday. But I did buy some bridal magazines and cut out little pictures and made a scrapbook so I have sorted out in my head and on paper how everything will look and special little touches. I found that helped a lot.

Yeah I'm sort of organised in a round about way I just
I've list to see where I am and what to worry about first so will look for that. Trouble is if I go in Pinterest I'm lost for days! Lol I'm the most unimaginative person so things like centrepieces I know what's in my head but actually making that into a real thing is totally different! I want something tall not a bowl in my colors an that's as far as I've got! But things like photographer my dads a photographer so he's sorting that with his photographer friends, mums looking into the insurance as she likes the details of these things. Food drinks package is all with the venue package as is the dj and disco, chair covers and sashes, the reception room already has twinkly light ceiling and swags so only tables need decorating, dress is done, registrar booked, notice will be given next month, no transport needed as staying at venue on the night before, bridal room included in package for wedding night, researching save the dates invites etc

I am the same all tho i have to say i have definatly calmed down alot after 4 months straight of researching, its not come to a complete stop but i just look maybe once a week instead of every night. i have a budget spreadsheet to but also a note book with a million lists and quotes, prices, information, its been so helpful. ive even drawn table plans in it, centerpieces, sketches of cakes etc

Everyones priority lists change it just depends what you think is most important to you and h2b. ive already sorted h2b ring as to me that was important other people leave rings till last. just write a list. its ok to keep looking around though but it may cloud your judgment of what you actually want. i knew what decorations i wanted and after looking around alot ive added more and more and my centerpieces have changed 3 times lol

TeresaC54 - I've used a spreadsheet as well! It started with venues but I've also created them for different aspects of the wedding. It's really helped me get a grasp of how much things cost and has helped me narrow my choices.

    Hi sprucey

I noticed you have not been on here long
I work away quite a lot and I'm the one organizing almost everything I also found it helpful getting a wedding organizer
I was doing exactly the same thing then I started using the budget planner adding and taking things away until I got what I wanted it took a few months to settle down and things started to fall in place

So don't panic you have plenty of time enjoy it

A wedding organiser as in a folder type thing? I think my problem is I'm trying to work a lot from the computer saving bookmarks of suppliers trying to find checklists online etc, maybe it's better to physically write things down it feels like you've been more productive then maybe!

You answered your own question. Have a list/spreadsheet detailing estimates, dates you need to buy them by etc, and just work through it. I don't think there's anything wrong though occasionally having ideas and having a look on the internet xx
