To help save some pennies me and h2b were thinking of having the wedding ceremony in the afternoon so then we could go into the evening reception (so to speak). and it saves money by not having to cater a 3course meal for 45 people or however many! Has anyone else had/having this? Just wondered what you all thought?

I think a late afternoon (4PM or so) wedding would work well. My cousins did something similar.

we're having a 4pm ceremony and only a sit down no buffet later x
CommentAuthorloubylou
we are having a 4pm wedding, no sit down meal then an evening buffet, for 2 reasons really, the main 1 is to save pennies and the 2nd because some guests are travelling from scotland so it gives them time to travel here and get changed before the ceremony. x
21st October 2011 will be the best day of my life!!!
We're doing this - wedding around 4 or 5pm in mid-summer and then buffet reception :-) Definitely looking like it's going to save us a lot of money! x

im having a 2pm wedding and going to a evening reception with a buffett only :D

The latest you can get married is 6pm. When they say 6pm they mean that you have to be married and the service over by then. Its a good idea though and great way to save some pennies. Also means you get a lay in that morning and bags of time to get ready.
CommentAuthorTilley
we're thinking the exact same thing. having a 3/4 pm wedding and then just having an evening reception. H2B is very keen on the idea x

We are having our civil ceremony (the legal bit), at 3pm followed by a pagan handfasting, and a hog roast late afternoon. I am worrying people will be hungry later in the evening so still undecided what to do about that lol.
CommentAuthormillwalljayne
We're also having a 2/3pm church ceremony, then a quick open top bus tour of London and the reception on a boat from 6 til midnight x

We are getting married about 3ish, and then having a big posh buffet rather than a sit down meal. I would hate to pay £40 a head and someone not eat and we want a more relaxed atmosphere too, so saving money and will have the wedding we want without me having to force feed an expensive meal down my guests throats, eat it...eat it!!! lol :)

We are wanting a late as possible wedding as I am not well and cannot manage two receptions so it would be one sit down meal about 7pm. That way we can put all the money in the one do and have everyone we want...in theory!
CommentAuthorSophieb908
I am hoping to have the ceremony at about 4pm and then just have a buffet later. It saves money, everyone will be able to come to everything then so no people left our of the ceremony and i dont go out for meals and spend £40 a head when its just me and H2B so defo not wanting to do it for 50 people! The only problem is though, ive read some brochures and some venues are iffy about doing it...or sometimes they do discounts if you have both. Im going to see some venues this weekend though so hopefully ill be able to tell them what i want! =] x

were getting married at 3pm, but by the time we get to the venue and everything it will probably be about 4ish, were having a small buffet for the day guests then a bigger one for the evening guests
the greatest thing is to love and to be loved in return
CommentAuthorshellay
we are getting married at 4pm, for exactly the same purpose, then the buffet will be served at 7pm when the guests that are not invited to the ceremony arrive :) x

Our two potential venues have been really good - both happy to do buffets for us (one even offered to tailor make one to our budget!), which is great - although makes it harder to choose between the two! Going back this weekend hopefully so h2b can look at them both and fingers crossed, make a decision! But in a way, either one we pick, they're both happy to do help with what we want, so making our late afternoon ceremony all the more possible :-) x
