    Hello!
We've decided to go down the afternoon tea route for our reception, eating at around 4pm. We've asked whether or not we should have a tasting but the caterer doesn't think it's worth it as it'a not a 3 course style dinner. Should we press them for a tasting session anyway?!
Also, any suggestions for alcohol to go alongside? Our wedding is quite relaxed so I was thinking beers/cider for the guys and pimms (our welcome drink) or rose wine for the ladies? Open to suggestions though. Red and white wine just seems a bit much for afternoon tea, and we're not big drinkers anyway!
Lastly, the wedding is in late March, so we're stuck between normals pimms and winter pimms. It can be any weather at that time in the UK!

EDIT - PLEASE LOOK AT THE CATEGORIES AND CHOOSE THE CORRECT ONE FOR YOUR THREAD. THIS HAS BEEN CHANGED FOR YOU THIS TIME .

I would push for a tasting session - it would be nice to know exactly what you will be getting on the day and I think you should be entitled to have this experience!

The alcohol sounds great :) I never knew there was normal P1mms and winter P1mms though!! x

could you not have a mix of summer/winter pimms? or does it need to be one or the other? I you had to choose one, I think I'd wait and see if we have a bad winter lol, before making a decision! But I do like that idea over the wine, with beers/ciders for the guys :)

If you want a tasting, insist on one, we are paying lots of money for these weddings, the least they can do is offer a tasting if requested!

Is there a bar? Could you just have a bar for people to choose what drinks they want? Otherwise I would say Pimms should go down well with everyone. Be careful about saying one drink for the men and one for the ladies though. Some ladies like beer or cider and some men like wine. Four options sounds good, hopefully with beer, cider, rose and Pimms there'll be something for everyone.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

Thanks everyone so far! Yes I wasn't being sexist of course ladies can have beer and men have pimms etc. we won't be assigning people individual drinks ;-)

We're keen to provide at least something free as we're tied into a cash bar for the evening guests and there's no corkage for the reception so want to take advantage of that!

Re the pimms I think it's probably a good idea to wait and see how winter plays out, thanks!

At one point we were going to have afternoon tea but decided against it as my H2B saw one of the other menu options and fell in love with it lol However if we were having it we would of been having samples and with that menu option it came with the options of coffee/Tea, Pimms and champers or soft drinks for under 18's
Defo take advantage of no corkage :)

Oooh yeah I would make sure tea and coffee were available as well - I would love to have a coffee to wash down my afternoon tea! xx

We were thinking of having speciality teas, as well as the normal tea and coffee. Our caterer has assumed we're doing teas and coffees at the end, but isn't that a bit weird seeing as it's afternoon TEA?

Ooo someone suggested Katy Rosé cider in another thread, that's a genius idea!
    So I'm thinking the following:

Welcome drink: Pimms (decided on summer pimms to welcome in spring!) and elderflower presses for non-alcoholic.
Afternoon tea: Katy rosé cider, white wine, and a couple of large beer bottles. Non-aloholic: Traditional (pink?!) lemonade or elderflower presse
Speciality teas for during the meal and after (with coffees)
    Prosecco to toast

I'd also considered iced-tea, but this might be pushing it with the tea thing...

Prosecco is nice and light so could be an alternative to white wine (which I agree might be a bit heavy, but I wouldn't go with rose as I don't know many people who drink it); buck's fizz also often goes down well. Otherwise, your options sound great :-)

We didn't bother with a tasting as they're not always free and ours was gonna cost £50 , I don't think I'd bother with afternoon tea tbh x
