Hi every one! I am trying to get organised for our wedding next year. But the one thing we can't find is a decent photographer that is not costing us the earth! We have a budget so can't afford a lot, the quotes we have had are all along the £1500 mark. Which is more then my dress!! Am I being silly thinking we can get one cheaper and also get good photos? Could any one recommend a good photographer that is not going to cost us the earth, in the Basingstoke, Hampshire area? X

Im in the NE so can't really help you locally, but ours is £999. We did orignially want the works which was £1500 but we decided to do parents albums ourselves with offers from Gr0up0n, so just went for our all day photography, our wedding album, disc and slideshow for the reception of photos taken up to that point, as that was important to us with family difficulies. Otherwise, we would have went with cheaper ones (about £800 average that didnt offer the slideshow)
Try the QuoteMe tool on the site or email local colleges asking for a student to to do it for pocketmoney and help build their portfolio x

Have you tried the quote me feature on here? I found my photographer that way and she is amazing, so excited about her shooting our wedding. Am in Berkshire but she may go to Basingstoke as not too bad...her link is on my wall if you want x

Have you considered advertising at the local colleges? photography students are always looking to build their portfolios, which you can have a good look through to see if you like their style. You could even pay for two promising talents for a fracture of the price. my friend paid a fortune for her professional and he was utterly pants, you really never know. we have a family friend who is brilliant, and instead of paying her we are getting her a new camera and paying for her transport to the day, we are all delighted!

Try gumtree. You may find a less established one or a weekend photographer who's a bit more affordable.
Also keep an eye on wowcher for your local area x

We have a student photographer at our wedding. We have met with her and fully trust her... Although as she's new to wedding photography I have done her a list of shots I want doing :) she didn't want any money as long as she could use the photos & I get the cd afterwards. I am giving her £100 as a gesture of good will as she is doing me a huge favour! Definitely worth asking at colleges & on local sites & gumtree x

Have you considered booking a photographer for just a half day package? And then the reception photos could be from guests or disposable cameras on the tables?
