Hi as some of you know I've ordered my handmade invites and guest book from America from etsy and they are now due to be posted out to me, we paid $13.95 for postage of the invites and $15 for postage of the guest book. Now I've had an email off the woman today saying the products are ready to be shipped but that the shipping they charged wasn't enough and they want to charge another $25.
I'm absolutely fuming, they've sold about 33000 products on their etsy business page so surely they know how much their products weigh etc... Just wanted a bit of advice over whether I should just shut up and pay or fight it out? As I myself don't think I should have to,since I've paid $28.95 already plus $400 for the actual invites and guest book
Very unhappy customer right now :-(

They are saying that in their shop policies they are not held responsible for extra shipping costs...I've just looked at their policies and all I can see is regarding international shipping, they have put they are not responsible for any customs charges or tariffs

This is what it actually says:

Items that are not custom will be shipped in 48 hours after purchase via Priority Mail.
Shabbyscrap is happy to ship internationally. Custom Wedding Items are prioritized according to wedding date. All orders may incur an additional shipping cost once they are finished and the final weight is determined.
Shabbyscrap is not responsible for any custom fees, tariffs, or any other charges incurred with International Shipping.

Shabbyscrap is not responsible if a package is held up in customs and does not arrive when planned. Please carefully decide if that is a risk you can take.

I think if it's stated in the terms and conditions, unfortunately I don't think there's much you can really do about it hun rather than as kelly suggested xxx

.....That's the bit that probably wont help but you could email and see if you can go down the route of saying that its quite a big increase on what you were quoted and not far off doubling the amount you have already paid towards shipping.

I've just sent them that, see what reply I get...I just think its very misleading, I think if this happens they should leave the shipping cost off completely until the products been finished and weighed then bill the customer for postage, rather than billing half then stinging ppl 4months later!

Hmmm... Other than leaving feedback about your experience I'm not sure there is more you can do. Although they should have known from the start that it would cost more if they're shipping priority. Very poor customer service on their part.

I would ask them for the weight and I dimensions of the finished product so that you can go on the US postal website and price it up yourself to find out if they are ripping you off, it does seem an awful lot extra when they should be experienced to know the price their packages cost to ship.

Hmmm, it dd say that they may incur additional postage once the items are complete so from a legal point of view, I'm not sure you have a leg to stand on...

Morally though, they should make it clearer, or have more accurate websites info on the postage costs...it sounds like a fairly substantial order so they may discount it just coz of that....ultimately, I suspect you will have to pay or risk losing the full whack....or at least having a major battle on your hands to get the money back xx

Can you leave feedback on that website? I would make sure you leave very bad feedback once you have received them on their customer service level...I mean honestly who reads every single small print on every website?!?! x

It's a payment that you didn't think you would have to make, but it sounds like it's just a genuine mistake on their part. Not great, but mistakes do happen. X

Hope this is resolved... it does seem like an unreasonably steep additional charge... but maybe look at it as a cost per invite more for the invites of your dreams?? x

It seems a lot more extra to pay, maybe a few dollars extra but not that. Then of course you may get stung with customs charges in this country. Have you emailed etsy as a company??

Worth a go as it seems a large jump when they have already quoted you one price, and like you said, surely they know how much things weigh.

That's terrible!! You should definitely challenge them! Is there anything in their T&Cs about having to pay anything more than you already have done? It's their mistake so you shouldn't have to pay more!! Xxx
