When you apply for adoption, does your siblings background effect you?
I know this may seem like a strange question but, OH's younger sister is going to court for three counts of child abuse on her own daughter (who wasn't even one year at the time).
I'm asking about adopting because I'm 50/50 on been able to carry a child for the proper length of time and OH has a lump in his man hood which cannot be removed without taking away his little men so to say.
However, we are still trying to have our own child but if that doesn't happen then adoption will be our choice.
So all in all, we just want to know if what is happening to his sister now will effect us and our chances.
Any know?
I have tried looking on the internet for my answer but so far all I can find is that your parents background may effect it.
Thanks.

I would say no, unless she lived with you. But it really depends on the application process; different agencies have different requirements. Have you thought of fostering? I have some family friends that have adopted after fostering, it seemed to make the adoption process easier.

Okay. And we have only kinda glimpsed at fostering, but like I said, we are going to try our best to have our "own" before we really get into the process.

I'm not to sure. I would have thought that they would do a background check, but I don't think it would then be a definite no. X

they will look at anyone who would be in regular contact with the child
I so badly want to say that they will disregard it, but on the gov.uk website it says that you will not be able to adopt if you aor an adult member of your family has been convicted of a serious offence, and I suspect that will fall under that...I'm not use if your h2bs family or h2b have anything to do with her and if this is taken into account or not.
Are there any adoption forums or message boards you can post on? They may be able to give you a clearer answer.
Sending hugs.

I'd check the info on the above post. I think it depends on the situation. Like lala said, they will check in to everyone that has close contact with the child, so I guess it would depend on whether this woman is part of your lives and will have contact with the child.
Also, I do seem to recall that when they say, 'you will not be able to adopt if you or an adult member of your family has been convicted of a serious offence', they may be referring to any adult that lives in the home of where the child will be staying. I may be wrong, but somewhere I'm sure I remember seeing that.
Vegas baby!

I've just had a scan of a uk adoption forum and there is a lady on there who was refused initially on the grounds that they had 'too much' contact (the poster mentioned this amounted to Christmas and birthday cards) with her sister who had a criminal record...however she reapplied with a different agency and has had her two year old adopted daughter for a year now, so I do think that it depends on the circumstances.
The advice on there is to not get too disheartened if the answer is initially no, keep trying with different agencies xx
