As some of you might remember I posted a bit back that one of the stones had come out of my engagement ring and then 5 weeks ago another one came out well I was so happy to get it back on weds despite being told I wasn't allowed to wear it really it was more a ring to be looked at it has come out yet again this morning!!! I'm sooo angry but at same time am really upset!! I just needed to rant a bit somewhere where no one will get hurt lol x but I don't understand how a ring can be so defective!! Only had it back 2 days!! Ry is now in there complaining as I don't want to get upset with them!!
And sorry for not putting it onto other thread I couldn't find it as am on phone and it stupid!!

    Sorry for rant too! Xx

that's awful.. exactly the same happened with my first engagement ring (from first marriage) from the jeweller Mr Jones (reason why I will never ever go back there regardless). The stone fell out of the first one as the gold bent (think cheap silver and it wasn't). They ordered another one in...I tried it on...was about to take it off for them to polish and 'lo'.. it bent again. The manager tried to placate me with 'oh so you're the Uri Geller who can bend rings' (wrong wrong thing to do!!!!).

Am confused - it's a ring to be looked at? Not worn? If so then, under the Sale of Goods Act it is not fit for the purpose for which it was intended and, even though it obviously carries lots of sentiment, then you should take it back and complain - loudly - in the shop (which is what I did). And don't back down... the jeweller must sort this out.

    good luck lovely x

It's definitely not fit for purpose if everytime it's touched something goes wrong with it. Threaten them with trading standards etc.

    Good luck.

If the jewelers part of a national chain it might be a good idea to contact their corporate office.

it is a little jewllers i dont think it is part of a chain although just because i havent seen any others doesnt necessarily mean that lol but ry went in and spoke to them as i was too upset and would loose it and apparantly the lady is going to write a strong letter for us complaining to them and get it sorted out the main problem i have now though is that she cant tell us how long it gona take to have it back again!!

i wish i could name and shame but not allowed but it the shop of the tons-ship the lady that ry spoke to was really nice but the one that i saw was really condescending!! still ry is gona wait and see what happens he did say that he wanted a new one to replace it!

but ry is really upset cos he paid a LOT for it 18ct white gold aswell! but i have been telling everyone not to go there! but mark my words if they dont sort it out satisfactorily it ill be taken to trading standards!!!

thank you everyone though im glad it not just me!! xxx

Seems a bit silly for someone to tell you that you can't wear your ring. If it is not wearable they shouldn't have sold it to you! I hope you get it all sorted out soon xxx

I cannot believe they could tell you it is meant to be looked at not worn. By definition a ring is something WORN on your finger. I think you need to get your money back and go elsewhere. I know it may not feel the same but you are meant to wear an e ring for a long time.

Hope you get it sorted x

Aw im glad the trip took your mind off of it and calmed you down!

I had a ring once that a stone fell out after only a few wks, went back to the shop they looked it over and said do you work with hangers or cash, i said what? no? do you wear it in the shower/washing up etc, no i take it off so it doesnt get water damaged etc, oh well it is not something to wear all the time, it is merely to wear on the odd occasion??
seriously...why?!! it's beyond me why people are told this!! Needless to say I havent worn the ring since, partially because its wayyyy to big now but still!! ridiculous to say the least!

Hope it doesn't take too long to get your replacement and hopefully it won't happen again! fingers crossed for you hun xx

The same thing has happened to my engagement ring twice, first one of the shoulder diamonds and then the big centre diamond. H2B took it back to the jewellers both times and they replaced and cleaned the ring both times free of charge but i still find it gutting when i can't wear it for a week whilst it's being fixed, don't know what i'd do if they said i couldn't wear it anymore lol. H2B said if anymore stones fall out he is going to demand a brand new ring as it wasn't a cheap one (is valued for £2000) so it's obviously getting to him aswell xx

Not all rings are designed to be worn all the time. For example pearls and opals are very soft and would get destroyed if worn all the time. Some stones will chip and some settings cannot stand up to daily wear either.
When my ring was purchased one of the major selling points was the platinum setting because it's stronger. This does not mean however that it will never need to be adjusted.
My point being that it's really important to make sure that any ring you wear daily should be worn daily. It may also be worth seeing if a jewelery maker could reinforce your current ring, rather than just repairing the damage.

I think jewellers ought to be more vigilant in making it clear that rings aren't 'everyday' wear, if this is the case. I would sort of assume that a ring (particularly if it was an engagement type ring) would be suitable....

A good jeweler should tell you this information up front as they would want to create a customer for life. However if they're just looking to make a quick sale then I imagine they will tell you anything. It's really important to do your research when purchasing jewelry.

how long has it been >?

tbh honest i would now write or email saying that as they have now had your ring for ........ weeks you require and answer with in 10 days as you think this gives them a reasonable amount of time , failure to correspond with you in this time will leave to no option but to contact tradings standards and ask them to take up your case

I can't believe it takes them so long. When one of the stones fell out of the shoulders on mine it took eight weeks to repair, when it only took them six weeks to make it. X x

Sorry but I wouldn't bother getting a replacement ring from them. I would go to the shop with the ring and the receipt and demand my money back. I would go first thing in the morning and stay there all day if I had to.
