I lost my Dad to Cancer in 2010 - luckily he was alive and well the first time I got married and him giving me away was such a special time. Obviously he can't do it this time round so I've asked my Uncle. Was going to ask my 15 year old son (who'll be 16 in October) but he's quite reserved and doesn't like the limelight too much so thought Uncle was a better choice (plus he was one of my Dad's best friends)
Anyone else in this situation? Who's giving you away? I know I'll cry!!! xx

    Hi
This is my first time around- I'm 28 but unfortunately my dad died 5 years ago my mum is going to give me away. My sister in law to bes father is a minister so as he is taking the service her mum is giving her away too! I'm not overly close with any male relatives and am really close to my mum. I was worried she wouldn't want to as she's so traditional but she was really happy when I asked her!
    Hope that helps :)))

I lost my Dad nearly 25 years ago, so my mum gave me away the first time I got married. This time tho, I have asked my Uncle as he possibly will never be asked to it as he only has sons lol. The only part my mum was nervous about last time was getting up and giving a speech, so she's quite pleased I didn't ask her this time.

My dad is not dead but he he may as well be too me, hes een dead beat ever since I was a kid. And has not even met his 2 & 1/2 year old daughter. My mum is walking me down the aisle, as shes ultimatly the only family I need besides my Oh and Daughter.

After I left my ex my mum and dad don't speak to me now, their loss not mine! I couldn't choose one brother over the other so I decided to ask my gran to give me away as she's always been there for me since I was small. One small problem I might have to face is that she might not be here in 16 months as she'll be 95 by the time the wedding comes around, but I'll cross that bridge if I have to.

I'm in exactly the same situation. Dad gave me away first time but died 6 years ago. So my 16 year old son is giving me away. He's fairly confident but is happy that his main role is to march me (army cadet!!) up the aisle then his formal roles are over. I'm so sad dad isn't around but am so proud of my lad xx

I am 31 and this is my first marriage. I lost my dad to bowel cancer 7 years ago so I am going to ask my mum to give me away, but I know she doesn't like to give speeches so I might ask my sister (also MOH) to do a speech in her place.
I always wanted my dad to walk me down the aisle so planning my wedding sometimes gets me down. I have to try and find a way to honour him on the day somehow.

My dad died 23 years ago and gave me away the first time round. My youngest son gave me away this time as the eldest refused point blank to he was a witness. My youngest did an excellent job and stood and gave a speech even though he was so nervous bless him was so proud of him he is 24

JoannaS that's lovely. It's kinda comforting to know other peeps are in similar situations. My Uncle was so chuffed I'd asked him, thought he was gonna cry - and my Mum was also over the moon, she said Dad would be glad I asked my Uncle too xx

My father isn't around. I did ask my mum but she didn't want to, so I asked my uncle/godfather who was so proud to give me away and do a speech, my Aunt said he was very honored and emotional about it!
