Well hello! Having been engaged for a while now, but with a planned date of NYE 2012, my fiancé and I decided to not "plan" for a few months... Thankfully for me, those few months of no planning are OVER!!
And so the planning begins! But I could do with some advice...
Firstly, we're well aware we need to get in EARLY to get a venue for NYE, somebody tell me if we're just chasing a dream that's not going to happen? I so far can't find anywhere that seems likely to cater for a NYE reception =S
Also, how common is it for a place with a set menu to allow you to choose something different entirely? My fiancé is Scottish so we can't NOT have Haggis! But in North East England, it's not on many menus!!
Thank you very much
Nikki x

Hi and welcome first off you need to get a ruff idea of what you want and a ruff idea of what it will cost and go from there.

I dont think its impossible to find a venue for NYE altho Hotels with many function rooms may be your best bet.
We put together our own menu as it was important to us to have a traditional xmas menu. The majority of venues we looked at on the internet did a single meal option - I cant imagine all 50 - 60 of my guests all liking that one thing. We chose 2 options for each course and put together our own menu, drinks package and what we wanted for a buffet. Then we emailed the menu to all venues we liked the look of - asked can you do this and for what price per head? We didnt see the point in wasting an afternoon visiting a venue if they werent going to be flexible. Many said they could do our menu and thats when we started making a shortlist and visiting them. Remember to do your guest list first that way you know what size venue/function room you are looking for. xx

You will find somewhere but I do think that you will need to start looking soon. With such a specific date think you need to have a budget in mind. Good luck !

Hi and welcome.
I think there is another lady getting married new years eve but i cant remember her name. It might be hard finding a venue to do a wedding reception on new years eve. What you could do is have a fuction room with a bar tell them it is for a wedding/new years eve and see which is cheap. Saves you on cost.
Cant wait to to marry Martyn
Wishes the wedding would come faster

hehe that was me :) at the Ramada but once again I've changed my mind :O so back to my first date and venue!
Nikki Joy, ok I was going for a traditional Scottish Hogmanay theme :) if you want to know any of the ideas I had just ask, I got a bit carried away with the excitment of it all :D you could go the whole hog and do the proper Scottish Hogmanay theme or I could give you some ideas apart from haggis. Infact the traditional Hogmanay meal is steak pie hehe. Oh and welcome xx

Mrs Hall2B, thank you, that's great advice. Hadn't thought of saving some cash on a slightly different definition of the celebration =P
Mrs Mac2B that would be AMAZING! I'm just a LITTLE obsessed with the whole tartan thing. Definitely looking at having a Ceilidh, basing the colour theme around his tartan for sure. Ooh and actually, if we can't find a place who will let us have our own menu, then steak pie for Hogmanay works perfectly!! What a great idea!

I wanted to have 'first footing' favours. Whisky minis, silver chocolate coins, shortbread and coal! Also you could replace one of the wine drinks with whisky :) xx
CommentAuthorNikki Joy
Oh I LOVE the idea of first footing favours!! Mrs Mac2B I think you're a genius =)
I was also thinking maybe a midnight dance instead of a first dance. And I have a friend who makes garters, so she's making me one in his tartan! Definitely having much whisky, thinking of having lots of drinks either seasonal or Scottish... so whisky favours, mulled wine after dinner, hot chocolate during the evening to keep people awake, champagne at midnight...
And hello everybody I haven't hello-d back to!!

CommentAuthorMrsMac2B

congrats !! and welcome !! i wanted new years eve too!! and my h2b is having the whole scottish thing we looked around at a few (and are still looking!!) but most ov them wanted us to pay exclusive and it was more than double than what normall exclusivity was!! so we decided against new year and now we can't decide on a date were just going to find the right place and see what dates they have available!! good luck wiv it all xx
CommentAuthorNikki Joy
Thanks.
I've emailed all the local venues we like the look of firstly just saying that we're very keen on New Year and asking whether there's any possibility at all of having a reception then. We agreed that it's a good way to funnel out the ones that just won't have it, I've already had 2 replies from places that can do it!! *yay* including a CASTLE (which ig GORGEOUS but comes with I don't know WHAT price tag for NYE) and a fairly new venue who are looking to establish themselves (who are less WOW but certainly much cheaper and more flexible)
And if nowhere cheap enough AND nice enough can do NYE, then we'll just have to rethink the date
