Just had a message from H2B which has really annoyed me.
Background - MIL2B TOLD me that I couldn't have my hair done with my dress on in the salon. The salon is in a v posh hotel. She TOLD me that I had to have a room in the hotel and hairdresser will come to room to do it. She will pay for the room.
I CANNOT get a taxi for the 5 minute journey from hotel to reg office and 5 mins again from reg office to venue (You could walk the whole journey in about 10 minutes!) I HAVE to have a car. She will pay for the car.

Reality - I found out that the Paris related hotel chain was doing a promotion with 50% off if booked before 31 st Jan. Our hotel is part of the promotion as is our date so I found B & B in the room that we wanted for £97.50 instead of £250 inc breakfast. Result, Bargain, I'll have that. Emailed MIL2B to tell her and then thought 'Don't want to miss this, I'll book and she can pay me back' Now we hadn't discussed budgets as you can't pin her down but as the booking was £40 cheaper than the least expensive room at full price I couldn't see it being a problem.

MIL2B doesn't respond to my emails re finding and subsequently booking the room. H2B speaks to her, she tells him that they may stay there as well.
He mentions her paying for it and she says ' She might treat us'.

WHAT!?!
YOU MIGHT TREAT US!?!
It was your bl00dy idea to have the room woman and you TOLD me you were paying for it and now you MIGHT treat us!?!
That means I have just shelled out 100 quid that I couldn't afford to spend on something that I didn't want in the first place. Yeah, cheers for that!

Aww, bless you hun! Maybe your h2b could have a word and say that the only reason you booked this room in the first place was her insistence that you needed to. I don't envy you at all though... we have the situation at the moment of needing to tell his mum that if she insists we need flowers in the church then she needs to pay the £60 fee to bring in flowers :P

maybe she hadn't said anything to h2b about treating you to it and she was upset that he now knew where you'd be staying the night before????

at least your MIL2B talks to you. My MIL2B and FIL2B are so quiet that they dont even talk. They hardly take to each other or well i never see them talking to each other but i suppose its a good thing in a way as they arent involved in our wedding. You could prob just mistake them of one of the guests as they dont seem interested at all

Rags - We're not staying there the night before it's the night of the wedding and H2B already knew about it as he was there when she told me I had to get ready there and she was paying.
She offers to pay for things but then when you try to pin her down to a price so you know what your budget is she changes the subject or says some thing like the ' I might treat you' It's very annoying!

I would then take anything she says in future with a pinch of salt and if she wants to do something for you then she can pay for it and organise it to so that you don't end up in this situation. In the mean time just plan and work to what you have and if she decides at some point to help out its a bonus. At least in the meantime you won't get stressed with her changing her mind all the time.

Nope, she can more than afford it. I don't know why she does it. A while back she was going to pay for us to go up to London to a show 'cos we looked after her cat. That never happened either. Couldn't get her to tell us how much she was willing to pay. Anyone see a pattern forming here?

Maybe the next time she says that she'll pay for something just bring up the hotel room and say that you'd rather not because of that reason.
Put it to her flat. It'll probably make her uncomfortable cos it would make me uncomfortable but she shouldnt of offered to pay and then say she'll treat you huh

H2b family cannot help but 'help'. His brother decided to invite himself to a wedding meeting with his mother (where we were trying to get out of her how much she was paying) and tell us who we had to invite to the wedding. His uncle invited himself to the meal at the reception where we were having a meeting with the coordinator, going through initial questions and decided to 'negotiate' on our behalf. He got very shirty with the coordinator when they told him that corkage was NOT negotiable and nearly lost us the venue.
