How many would you cater for when inviting approx 170 to an evening buffet. Approx 85 of these will have been present at the wedding breakfast, which i'd imagine would be about 4pm as ceremony is at 2pm. Bearing in mind we also have a 7ft choc fountain with 10 dips, 30 kilo pick and mix stand and our cake which will be cut and served during evening will be 8 tier! so lots of sweet stuff...Really need comments on this please...Many Thanks x x

we are having same sort of numbers. 70 for the day and 170 in the evening. we are only going to cater for about 80 as most people will have either eaten the wedding breakfast or eaten before they come. You always get so much food thrown away at buffets as people tend to be drinking and dancing xx

Ok.. Relax
We have 59 ppl to the sit down meal... we have another 70 to the evening...
I am catering for 80 in the evening buffet... the reason being... alot of people may eat before they come out at 8pm... and some will not really be hungry after they have had a full 4 course sit down meal in the afternoon (well 5pm) most will just pick i expect.. but least i know there is enough incase ppl are hungry!!

some venues normally recommend you cater your evening buffet for 70-80% but i think its more of a personal preference, if you want everyone to eat then i would imagine it would cost more. but as you say you got alot of sweet stuff, i would say cater for about 65% which is roughly 110 guests and then you probably wont waste as much food and im sure everyone will be more interested in the sweets and choc fountain! (that sounds great by the way!) hope this helps x
Im just a chef, not a miracle worker!
But I would like a fairy godmother to come and help with the
wedding plans!! :-)
We're catering for 75% of the people going to the evening reception but with your cake and sweeties I'd go for around 50%. Then people will be able to pick and chose what they like. Good luck! xx

It is around 70% normally when it comes to a venue advising you, but we are doing our own buffet, and because I know my h2b is a pig with food and some of our guests, we will be catering for the full amount of guests, and if there is any left over, that will do for h2b breakfast the next day, lol. xx

I would do half personally if guests have been there all day and drinking alot of people don't eat and eve guests may eat before they come. Xx

we are catering for 140 out of the 160 to 170 as we wont have eaten since lunchtime, and i dont want the guests that have been there all afternoon to be hungry, plus we have a few greedy people in our party :) x

alot of venues usually suggest you cater for 75% of the final number of evening guests (at least the venues around here do anyhow xx)

our venue said that we have to cater for everyone i.e. 80 guests coming, 80 guests pay to eat. check with the venue.
