But there is a distinction between 'discussing' and 'advertising', and I think most people stick the right side, and most who stray off don't do so deliberately!

Again, I'm going to swing my oar about - but I think it's ok to mention a site in passing, or in response to a question, if someone asks, and if you don't post a link (since that seems to be an absolute rule)
But I would say that posting a whole thread about how great a particular site is crosses the line into 'advertising', even though the person posting might not mean anything but to help!

I have deleted the website of which you mention Lisa as they are a competitor website which sells nearly new wedding dresses (just like us, plug) - and yes I am allowed to plug my own website.
Just to make it clear again. and to answer some points (already covered before), the problem is you see, some wedding businesses are 'sneaky' they join as a bride and say 'in passing' - "hey has anyone heard of ****** I have heard they are quite good" - some are far more clever.
So the answer for all Mods is to delete unless its so well known like Macdonalds, Ebay, Facebook but not any UK site that sells anything to do with weddings as they are competitors of this site (or wedding businesses who are either paying for our services or not). Either way their is plenty of opportunities for them to make you aware of their services.
Allowing people to plug away (except me) - upsets our advertisers and some of our members.
hayyyyyyyy - how come we can say ebay- they sell far more nearly new wedding dresses then the site i said!!

You can mention sites like Ebay etc and have a conversation about them because EVERYONE has heard of them, but you can't mention other sites that sell wedding related stuff.
For example, its fine to say
"I saw this great dress/tiara on ebay what do you think" - then the link is posted on their wall or the walls of other ladies who want a nosey.
But you cant say
"i know this great site called *insert name* they have fabulous dresses and tiaras" - thats classed as plugging another site which is also a competitor to UKB because they offer a similar service.
Millions of people use ebay and its a site that sells almost anything you can think of - its NOT in direct competion with UKB - and its known in every household in the world!
But sites that may never have been heard of are not allowed.
Does that make sense??

ANYONE or ANYTHING that sells wedding related items, EXCLUDING Ebay, is not allowed. Ebay is a generic term for the selling of goods - now if you mentioned the SELLER on ebay by NAME that would be advertising and is not allowed.
