Any other brides getting married on the 5th of November? Are you using a firework theme? I'm not having fireworks as my venue over looks Bristol so we will be watching everyone elses! Will feel like they are all celebrating with me.. How exciting. I will however be giving each guest a sparklers and will get everyone to light them as hubby to be and I walk into the reception or on the evening outside for the photographer to get some cool shots. I'm using toffee apples with name tags as place cards and a favour and getting some personalised seed sticks.. I was thinking of doing a sweet buffet but it works out ever so expensive so I may just fill some small bowls with marshmallows and put them on each table! My colour scheme is midnight blue, my bridesmaid dresses are a gorgeous midnight boy strapless ball gown and I'm using White and silver for accessories and stationery etc. My wedding dress is ivory and my bouquet is lots of different bright colours to represent a firework! Tables are also going to be named after fireworks.. Top table being the big banger!! My wedding cake I'm undecided on but I do like the idea of having a 4 tiered square cake with list of stars and bright colours and 'remember remember the 5th of November' cascading down the tiers! But as organised as I am, alot of it is just ideas and I'm sooo open to new ideas and what people think?? xx

Wow this sounds brilliant to me, loving the colours and bits you have planned so far..how about typical bonfire night food if you haven't thought already like hotdogs and burgers and jacket potatoes. You could have those fake fire flames that discos often use.

Haven't picked the menu yet but will def mention that to the chef or I could use that idea for my evening reception buffet! I'm booking a band and dj who owns some sort of light hire company so will check if he has the flamey things!! I'm using candles as centre pieces so going to keep them on tables right through to the evening too! xx

I'm going for a 5th November wedding but not planning on doing much with the whole fireworks theme. Colours are red and black, flowers are red and black, cake is red and black...all not very fireworky really. I did think about it, but figured it'd be too much. Wouldn't mind having some fireworks though in the evening

Cool, well good luck with it all, will let you know if I have any other ideas and welcome along miss newbie :) x

I love the red and black theme, I went to a wedding at the end of November and that was there colour scheme. Everything worked really well.. What are you planning for your dress? Will you be wearing a bolero or anything? I'm worried about being cold lol and considering the weather last tear on the 5th I'm petrified it's going to rain!

We're hopefully getting married on the 4th, and we're also hoping to be able to give our guests sparklers - or at least to try and have decorative sparklers incorporated somewhere - and oddly our colours are also blue and silver! But we've no plans to incorporate the date into it in any other way... as I'm regularly reminded at the moment (and something neither of us considered at first), the 4th is actually mischievous night... and that's perfect for us, so perhaps some cheeky practical jokes instead :P

Haha that's brilliant. You will def have to get some jokes in there.. And get your best man to play some games during his speech that get the guests having to do something mischievous or just make them neck shots lol! Whatever way it sounds like it will be great. You can get sparklers to put in food and cakes, maybe you could have the staff bring out your wedding cake with sparklers lit?? Are u using the blue and silver in your wedding invitations? I'm so stuck for ideas for mine at the moment!

Yeah but looking at keeping it pretty simple - Steve likes the idea of a gatefold invite in ivory with a blue satin ribbon opening - although I did point out that we would then need to add silver so we'll either do double ribbon or attach a bit of silver deco onto the ribbon :) We just ordered favour boxes today - in a navy blue (but not a really dark navy, so not sure they've labeled the blue right lol) and we'll be tying silver ribbon round those. Looking on the bay of e, found a seller that did blue stars for table confetti - think they also did other colours, don't know if that helps you at all for your table decs?

I will check out bay of e for the stars confetti, Do you think mixing the stars with scatter crystal would work together? I don't think I'm going to need favour boxes I'm using toffee apples and sparklers as favours and found a site that do 25 packs of 10 seed sticks for 21 quid and they are personalised so going to get them at some point if I don't change my mind in the mean time! Your invites sound lovely, check out celebrations plus website, they have some gate fold invites in White and silver and it says two hearts one love on the front, I'm sure you could find a way to add some blue and they are 99p an invite and are fully printed! I was just hunting bay of e and came across some cheque book style invites, I really like them but they are 2.50 an invite!!

sounds like youve got a lovly day planned 5thNovBride, but you have to remember to check the saftey regs of sparklers with your venue; they might not be alright about it, or they might want you to have big buckets of water or somthing . . . health & saftey & all that hope you have a lovly day :] <3 x
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
Yes your right, I do need to check which reminds me I need to ring my venue, I've sent lots of emails and not had any replies which is slightly worrying. I think the sparklers should be ok though, as the ones I have brought are for indoor use but if not they aren't expensive to buy another batch to use outside, even if I drag my guests to the car park to do it lol. I had the worst nights sleep last night, ideas and things just whizzing through my head. I don't know what to do regarding a candy buffet? I have a few kids that will be there and Im worried the little tykes will take the lot lol and leave nothing for anyone else! x

I was thinking of having some lacey as my dress is satin with a lace and organza over lay. Apart from photos and travelling from church to the venue everything else is inside but I know what Im like lol always cold! and hate the tops of my arms. I'm getting married at a church called St Marys in Bitton and then the reception is at Ashton Court Mansion :-)

hey - we were going to go for St Mary's lol how weird. Got my pic to upload now so you should be able to see it, it matches the detail on my dress. I'm worried a little about the cold but with a big huge dress and a little tiny bit of booze I don't think I'll be worrying too much about it!

I love St Marys, I in Keynsham now but was brought up in Willsbridge so St Marys has always been my local church and its beautiful inside and a blue carpet down the aisle, it even fits in with my colours lol! Where are you going for? I will take a look at the pics now!

I would have thought it would work. I'm hireing mine from the dress shop in Keynsham by the roundabout but they had others there. I think mine was made for my dress lol it's the same colour and pattern and everything. I'm now getting married further away just in Gloucestershire. I can't get married where I'd most prefer to which is my childhood church cos it's in Scotland so a little too far to go!
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
I live right by that dress shop, just opposite the church. I will have to pop in and have a look, are they charging you much for the hire? I was thinking about getting the mens suits from there as its local I dont have to travel around the day before to pick them up. It does look fantastic with your dress and your dress is beautiful, has alot of similarities to my dress. Beautiful! Thats a shame you cant use your childhood church but yes Scotland is a way to go! I had to travel to Portugal for a wedding in september, was so expensive made everything so difficult! I was just looking at all your pics and ideas, everything looks perfect!

It was out of all the ones I tried on the most expensive to hire, I think I paid something like £75 - but it would have been £180 to buy it. I could have looked on ebay but like I said it was perfect for the dress. They had other ones up there to hire, may be worth having a look if nothing else - what harm does it do?
CommentAuthorsalamander
I like your cake ideas. When you described it I couldn't picture it looking right but the pics are cool. Had a browse on google there's not many cake's that's be fitting, but I found a few more if you're interested in seeing them? Have you found anyone to do your cake?
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
Yeah I will have a look and see what they have in there.. 75 pound doesnt sound like anything compared to other things we have to pay for. My dress was the most expensive in the shop, so you have to have everything else expensive to make sure you dont ruin it lol thats what I keep telling the hubby to be anyway! Out of all those cakes, I prefer the first one with all the piped icing detail, I'm not sure if I like the idea of the 5th november thing wrote on the cake now though! Would love to see what you've found please, I rarely come across any on google! I've been in contact with a woman from Burnham on sea, her prices are really good, was around 200 quid for a 4 tiered cake, I didnt mention it was for a wedding though and I'm trying not too, as far as she knows its just for a celebration. I hate that everything goes up when you mention wedding! Have you sorted your cake? I saw a black and red one the other day I will see if I can find it!

I don't think popping candy would bake properly into the cake cos it'd pop as soon as it got wet. I was going to have popping candy as favours but it won't fit into out funky boxes we bought. I'll put some picture links on your wall. £200 sounds good for a 4 tier cake. Oh - and yes I made those cakes myself...little hobby of mine though I seem to be getting a lot of people wanting cakes at the moment, 3 wedding cakes so far this year to do, and countless birthday cakes lol keeps me busy!
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
Didnt think it would work! But how cool would that be?! I havent had popping candy in years and that would really fit with the whole firework thing. Maybe I can find somewhere else to incorporate it. Those cakes are amazing and I just spotted on another thred your doing a mint choc sponge?! The lady Ive spoken to will only do vanilla lemon and chocolate. The cakes you've made are fantastic, your very talented especially if its just a hobby! If all else fails you may end up with another one to make lol!

yeah mint choc sponge was actually in the purple gothic fairy cake picture - I think that's on here! We got popping candy for halloween last year for the trick or treaters - anything to hype those kids up with oodles of sugar lol :D
Cake pics I linked on your wall are just off google mind, I haven't done those one's but they look easy enough to do if you did want one if all else fails. My problem is I see someone with a cake dilemma and I just go off and hunt - I do it a lot for requests look around then find something we both like and tweak it to suit.
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
I just had a look and I love the 2nd one, white and black and the detail looks like fireworks, I think all white with the fireworks in blue and silver would look good.. I was just showing the other half the cakes Ive found so far and he loves the all blue one with the silver stars, I think thats on my photos.
I guess your making your own cake then? saves you loads of money! An aunt offered to make my cake for nothing but she can only do your standard round 3 tiered with a bit of icing, very boring and Im so not the boring traditional type.
How much would you charge for a 4 tiered? I don't blame people wanting you to make theres! The ones you have in your album are fantastic, that dog is amazing!!

I'm not making all my own cake. The mother in law is doing it as it is "tradition" for her, but she has strict instructions of what I (I mean WE) want lol. She wasn't sure at first but I said I'd be there to help if she needs it! She doesn't do sponge though so she's decorating 2 fake cakes (polystyrene blocks) the same as the other two tiers and I'll make sponge to go out the back, no one will know that it's "fake cake" and it makes it easier all round.
As for how much I charge lets just say not enough lol. Depending on what it was you wanted, I could work it out cheaper than what you've been quoted, BUT you'd have to pick it up or have it the day before delivered (you're not far from me), I'm not delivering someone elses wedding cake on my own wedding day lol
by the way - please don't feel I'm trying to push you into getting a cake made from me, like I said, cake is just what I do and when I see a cake dilemma I jump in there
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
Ohh that sounds good.. hubby to be said we should of gone with the aunts offer as hes not bothered what the cake looks like as long as its free! And its "tradition" well Im afraid I had to break that one lol.
I can just imagine you turning up at my wedding venue in your wedding dress delivering my cake lol ofcourse I would pick it up, like you said I am local! Oh and I know your not pushing me! I'd actually prefer it, being local etc I dont want to push you into making it though!!

I don't mind. Cakes - to me - are easy. They keep me busy as well, give me something to do. Apart from the time in the oven and cooling down (the boring bit) they wouldn't take too long.
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
So can you do all sorts of sizes and shapes? I think I'm def after a 4 tier, not sure if I want square or round yet but I'm thinking round! I was just thinking that I could combine the blue cake with silvers stars and the black and white with the fireworks.. So maybe every other tier white the others blue, silver stars and the fireworks in blue on the white tiers?!?! How does that sound??

confusing description but I'm sure it would be do-able. How many people you got invited to your wedding? Just thinking do you NEED a 4 tier cake? don't worry, I wouldn't downsize you, butmaybe have a tier or two fake cake so there's less wastage...an idea to think about??
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
I've just reread what I wrote lol that was rather confusing. I will have a think about a better way to describe it lol!! I've got around 100 people, I'm not sure if 4 tiers is too much or not? But I do like big cakes, so maybe I could have 3 tiers if that's enough and a fake tier. What flavours can you do?

I don't see why it wouldn't as long as it can be covered in frosting of some description and fondant which pretty much all cakes can. The only thing is I don't think it keeps for long but then without trying it I don't know. Most of my cakes I made *should* be good for 3 days, but I have found people still eating them after a week and they're still fresh.
I'm going to go and have some food and a chill out for a bit I think, but you know where I am if you need me. Are you on facebook? So many people have said not too wear anything as your adrenalin will be running and you wont feel a thing.. BUT its not just for the cold, I'm not the skinniest of girls and I have awful arms so I'd rather wear something to cover them! I'm wearing a veil so I might not wear a bolero in the church as the veil will cover tops of arms but as soon as the veil is off I think I will want to cover up again. I've started the biggest loser diet today though, so maybe if it works, I might feel confident enough to go without!
