    Hi,
Just joined the forum and looking for advice from anyone who is over 40 and already done this before! We all make mistakes..... just takes some of us longer to find Mr Extra Special Right. I'll be having a smallish wedding with around 30 family and friends attending. I'm looking to do the reception table decorating myself and absolutely love the stunning artificial flowers you get these days. Such a welcome improvement on the old plastic efforts! I have my mother's china ready and waiting as I want to use the teacups and saucers on the guest tables, so if anyone has experience of doing it themselves I'd love to hear from you. X

If you wanted a quirky twist, you could have an Alice in Wonderland kind of thing and have a Mad Hatters Tea Party! Why didn't I think of this in my initial plans! :) x

Hi everyone, thanks so much for writing - it's great to be able to speak with like-minded friends! I have some lovely china (my mum's) including a Royal Albert coffee set - I think the coffee pot will look gorgeous with simple gypsolphila on a table next to the cake. Once I have it all settled I'll post some pics to let you see it. I've seen some lovely china cream jugs and sugar bowl combos, and thought about stacking 3 teacups and saucers next to them as a mixed set. Can't believe how much I'm loving this whole wedding arranging thing, not like me at all but I'm just so excited about it. Would love to do this for other people now, so who knows, there may be a change of career in store...

Well, today (after my weightwatchers meeting :)), I decided to start having a look around the charity shops to see if they had any china I could buy for my table decorations. I saw some, but not many in great condition actually. A better choice was definitely ebay this week, but it could prove quite expensive once you pay for all the postage. I've still got a few months though so will keep trying. If anyone has any good web links I'd love to have them. I'm especially looking for cream jug and sugar bowl sets of mixed design. Cheers X

No, not got dress yet but I've got an appointment at a dress-maker week after next.

Be prepared here - I can type for England :)....

I did the frothy frock type thing the first time round and I didn't really want a full-lenth dress this time. I've got in my head a 1950's style tea-length dress. I've a few of that style in my wardrobe (from the bay of E) and they seem to suit my 'more womanly' figure.. It would be strapless but with a lace overlay sleeves (bingo wings eh...). Hopefully it will suit - a few years ago I was seriously ill and am left with a scar on my side - think sharkbite!.. but, it's part of me, and my other half loves me for me so what does it matter eh.

I dont want a veil - I've got shoulder-length hair and I'd like it wavy.

Bridesmades - 4 adult two children (including step grandkiddie). Probably Navy.

Cake is being made by a friend.
Invites are being printed by work colleagues (whoo hoo and they're free but shush).
    Other half's Nephews are DJ's
Son in law to be took Photography at Uni.

    So getting there really....

We're thinking of asking a friend of my daughter and step-daughter to sing our first dance - he was in a band before becoming a personal trainer - I adore 'At Last by Etta James'. Also sister-in-law knows (and I know him... but not as well) a guy that used to be in the Swinging Blue Jeans band and we'd quite like him to do a set..

Exciting times eh ?... I see you've only got 3 months to go - how exciting for you. How are all your plans comign together?

Very similar to your life really, I had the merangue dress first time around so I have toned down this time, i think its farcicle to do it again. I wont be wearing the veil and tiara stuff, but I have got a vintgae side tiara, and so have my bridesmaids.
I bought a tea length 50s style dress but as much as I loved the dress, the dress didnt seem to love my body.....so I sold it.
I am having 4 bridesmaids, my daughter , H2Bs 2 daughters and my sons girlfriend.
I have made their dresses all in different colours, and I am making my dress too when the fabric arrives......if it ever does!
I have photographer friends......so a friend is doing mine for petrol costs......as I did the same for her 2 years ago.
I am making my cake, I have done a lot of DIY.
I made my own Brooch Bouquet and 4 bridesmaids silk flower bouquets.

We are having a vintage 50s themed wedding, and playing 50s music through an ipod into our reception room. we are not having an evening reception, just a wedding breakfast, as there is only 19 people including us two.

We are getting married at a registry office and the reception is at a gorgeous hotel. Honeymoon in las Vegas. (not my choice cos I hate flying!)

My son will be walking me down the aisle, as my parents are no longer with me.
My wedding date is August 11th.

I have longish hair, have been growing it for the wedding, but have an appointment 2 days after the wedding to have it chopped, and sending it to the princess charity......to make wigs for children with cancer.
I too have had an illness....I had breast cancer 2 years ago, and just yesterday got my 2 year all clear......

I sent our my invites yesterday, home made by a lady that does them in the town I live.

Getting there, and i am enjoying it. I like that its a small and intimate wedding, not too much work and not too much money.

Hi Dot, I'm 44 and H2B is 45, It's my second time around, and my H2B 3rd...3rd time lucky he says LOL better be!! We're having a small personal wedding at Gretna Green with just 14 guests. We're doing everything ourselves, I've made our invites, banners, table name cards, scrolls, favours and I'm making our table decorations too. But everything still feels just as important and exciting as the 1st time around. This is defo my last, like you said it may take a few mistakes along the way, but you know when you find your soul mate :))

Hi all!! This is my 3rd time around but H2b's first. When we get married I will be 42 and H2b will be 41.

I've had all the pomp, big meringue, flashy car and doo with my other 2 weddings, this time around it's much more low key and intimate - just perfect!

I was 57 when I married my wonderful Russell on 26th March 2011. A year later we are blissfully happy still. We had both been married before but have now found each other and I am so so happy. We had the full works but on a budget of 2k, and it was a brilliant day.
(pics on profile page) I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world because we all deserve to happy no matter how old we are xxxx
