My daughter had her first febrile convulsion at 18 months old and had a series of 7 over 4 months. They gave her an ECG but couldn't find anything to suggest epilepsy. The doctors saw her over the next year and they didn't happen again. They just said because she had a fever each time it was nothing to worry about and that its quite common. (1 in 30 children have 1 before they are 5) its not as common to have 7 however especially in such a short amount of time and is even less common to have 2 fits within the same fever - all of this has happened to my daughter. Nothing else was done. My daughter is 3 now and came back from nursery on monday, the teacher said she has been really tired for the past half an hour and she wanted to go to sleep so I put her on the settee and 5 mins later she had stopped breathing, her lips were blue and her face was grey. I slapped her back to get her to breathe and called 999. after about a minute she took a deep breath in and started breathing slowly, she was completely unresponsive and the ambulance took her to hospital. They kept her in and said they thought it just wasn't a typical fit and she's having another ECG on tuesday. They said if we were in america then she would be being treated for epilepsy by now. Im just so worried. I don't know what to do, I can't sleep. I could deal with her having her normal fits but the thought of her having another one of those where she stops breathing when she's in bed is making me ill. or her just having epilepsy. Sorry its so long i just needed to vent

OMG, how scary?! I don't really have anything useful to suggest but I hope writing it down has let it out a little for you.

Fingers crossed that the Dr's can diagnose her very soon. XX

    Can't wait to be married!

Hey hun - my youngest daughter is almost 12 and when she was 7mths old she started having seizures and stopping breathing in her sleep. She was on Epilepsy meds for 10 years and has now been clear for almost a year.

She had annual ECGs and sleep deprived ECGs as in all that time her seizures were sometimes 3-4 nights a week but only ever had 2 during awake time. Believe it or not she never ever had a positive test saying she had epilepsy but it was witnessed by hundreds of people including health professionals (and I guess luckily I was nursing at the time). We were given the diagnosis of Sleep Epilepsy and Obstructive Sleep Apneoa when she was about 3.

All I can say is that Im a big believer in that its better to be in the know and be proactive then to just to react to things happening - as much as possible that is.

Feel free to message me if you are worried or just want to ask anything.

could you look in to getting her a heart monitor for while she's in bed so you dont have the worry of her stopping breathing in her sleep without you knowing? they might be expensive but well worth it as i can imagine your so worried! hope you get it all sorted soon xx

i hope your daughter is doing ok, i had my first seizure when i was 4 months old and just like munchkinpie didnt get a positive EEG until i turned 20. i was diagnosed with epilepsy at 3 been clear for 4 years now. if you get in touch with a neurologist and ask for her to be seen in a sleep clinic they can see what is happening in more detail. may need to be pushy as i did with my son hope you get the support you need x

Must be so hard for you.
Have you though of getting and angel monitor for her? it will sound an alarm if she stops breathing and so alerting you. Normally used for babies but im sure it would work for your daughter and give you peace of mind.
