I'm getting sick of the ice bucket challenge as its every other post on my news feed. My little cousin nominated me today but I'm not doing it. Ive just filmed Adam doing his though haha. it's supposed to be for charity but everyone's forgetting that and just doing it for the fun of it.
We're hopefully going to try some food for menu choices next Sunday and find out about me staying over the night before the wedding

Catherine, I can't wait to see it :D Ha ha! Awww April yeah it is annoying when people do it and don't donate seeing as that's the whole point, I love that it's bringing ALS to everyones attention though x
Ooooh fooood we don't get to go try ours til like October!!
I can't even afford to donate and Adams had to give me money for my phone bill coming out as I didn't get paid from work last week! What is ALS? With all these videos going around I still don't know what it is.
We have to pay for ours separate though and it has to be on a Sunday as a Sunday dinner substitute for some reason lol :/

Ah my works really bad sometimes for when they pay us ! ALS is an illness that basically shuts down your body bit by bit, there's no cure and there's no funding for research into treatments or anything. x
You're paying for your tasting?! Say whaaaaaaaat lol x

I don't agree with the ice bucket challenge, I don't like how it started as do the challenge or you have to donate... I think making donating to charity a forfeit is a great thing, it was only when it hit the celebrities that it became do it and donate. My brother has nominated me, but I'm not doing it, I will donate some money though. It's good that it's raising awareness, but I just think there are so many people out there who do it and don't donate. My brother had a right go at me saying how wrong it was that I wasn't going to do it after I was nominated and that I'll be tagged in it so everyone will see, I mentioned that I'll donate and asked if he was donating and his response was ''when I can afford it I will'' I think that says it all.
CommentAuthorCatherineR
Sorry if I offended anyone, was just saying I was doing it. We lost a dear friend to this disease which was heartbreaking at the time to see him go downhill so quickly, it still hurts not having him here so we are raising awareness for him and others. It may be stupid to chuck water over you but if you read the reason why about the water, it's very interesting. There is so much out there about the cancer charities and other what I would call 'popular' charities that people don't remember this one so I'm glad it has come into the limelight, no matter how it is done, it is still making a lot of people donate, google the condition and create awareness for it.

Yeah it is for a good course but I noticed the other day that Macmillian had jumped on the ice bucket band wagon....surely that takes it away from the main reason for it. Macmillian are a well known charity and get enough cash so I think a charity like this deserves it more.

I didn't mean anything against you with my little rant Catherine sorry, I just meant a lot of the people doing it are really annoying and I also had a similar rant about Macmillian to my fiancé after commenting on here as it really annoys me that they have even set up their own TEXT service for it. I just think it's rude for one when it's about awareness for a charity that people don't really know much about and two it's sort of under the belt for a charity to take money from another charity. Don't get me wrong, again I think they do brilliant work as well and I don't begrudge people giving them money either....
Like I say I couldn't believe it when I was accused of being the one in the wrong for not throwing water on myself but giving money anyway, whereas he is going to give when he can afford it (which will obviously be if he remembers to give when he can afford it)
Also although I am all for raising awareness I kind of don't agree with being told when I should give money to charity and exactly which charities I should support. I often give money to different charities and even do things for charity, I ran the York marathon last year for charity and I'm going to do a sky dive for charity either in October this year or March next year.
But overall I do think it is a good thing to raise awareness and at least people are giving money and it's nice to see it's for a charity that people don't know much about as well, so it feels like the awareness actually means something.
CommentAuthorAprilS61
That's the same with me Donna! I did the no makeup selfie last time and donated more than the £3 from the text service and did it online, I just don't see why I have to throw cold water on myself to raise awareness.

One of my work colleagues tried nominating me and I just said no, I then felt very under pressure by people around me almost forcing me to do it when I said "Right, no, I already donate through work to Diabetes UK, I regularly give to SPCA and also eczema awareness. If I give to every single charity I will end up penniless myself"

I've just been nominated by my MOH I'm going to kill her!! I would be putting her in the most ugliest bridesmaid dress I could find as revenge, if I didn't have to live with the pictures forever!! I'm not doing it, I have seen about 50 videos posted today on my newsfeed & can count on 1 hand the amount of those that mentioned anything about donating. It just seems to be turning into the latest trend & everyone's being sheep, there not doing it to raise awareness just to get more likes!!
CommentAuthorAprilS61
Exactly. People are only doing it os to keep with the trend and to get 3 seconds of thrill. Stuff like that isn't for me.

I don't think anyone saying there offended by it Catherine hun, just that some people are not doing it for the right reasons. Luckily I have not been nominated, and if i were I would not do it as although I'm rather poor (most month struggle to pay rent/bills while saving the minimum for wedding) So I donate my time to my local carnival who organise events etc throughout the year with a penultimate carnival we have raised well over £1000 this year for which will be share amongst local charities and voluentary groups.

I agree with people should donate if they do it but it's really raised the awareness of the issue which I think was the main focal point to raise the fact that there is no funding for research into it.

Ah ok, thanks Lana.. I wish there was more awareness for this charity - it is heartbreaking to watch a loved one go through this, believe me I know so it's good it is getting some awareness out there. Annoyed that Macmillian is jumping on the bandwagon though!

we want to do our own, we are now thinking of ordering the right card for what we think we want and making them, maybe getting some stuff printed, so a shared job, i quite like the pocketfold but i have expensive taste, its tricky as my colour scheme is champagne gold/gold/ivory so no real bold colour and you cant print gold apparently, so eek! i have a butterfly theme though so have some idea, its just putting it all together and coming up with something :)
CommentAuthorAprilS61
We've made pocketfolds! I'm pretty sure you can get champagne coloured card and maybe even the actual pocketfolds themselves, not sure though? We got ours from ebay and stuck the pocket together. You could incorporate the gold colour with ribbon or some kind of embellishments? should be able to get gold butterflies I'm sure.

It's awful isn't it April, just think it will all be worth it, you will have a fantastic day and the memories will last a lifetime :) I keep telling myself that, especially once we got past the point of saying ''in a year we'll still be on honeymoon'' when it came to ''in a year we'll be home and it will all be over'' I felt really sad, but then I had to remind myself that it's not about the honeymoon or about the day itself. Still very scary though.

Hi ladies
Hope everyone's planning is going smoothly. Have not been on much lately - need to catch up :-)
Gave notice on Tuesday and can collect our certificate on 11 September to give to our registrars. Money is a bit tight next month or so so not able to book as much as I'd like, but just ordered card etc to start on our invites. We were going to make pocketfolds but have decided on a kind of flip chart type style instead, hard to explain, but keeps everything together and works out cheaper! Really only 'major' thing left to organise is flowers but waiting on florist to supply a more accurate quote based on pic of something I like, everything else is booked and deposits paid. I see alot of people have gone for artificial. I looked into artificial but worked out not much less than real so decided to go for real. If I had time to do them myself I might have attempted it but I don't have a particularly artistic eye so probably would have e been pants ha ha!
Tried on 'my' dress recently too which I'm paying off this month - YAY. Found a nice headpiece and shoes I absolutely fell in love with but are VERY expensive, so on the search for alternatives at the moment.
Aside from wedding, I've recently passed my recent 2 exams, only another 6 to go and I'll be fully qualified :-) probably won't bother with exams next June so can focus on wedding, but just want to get them done!

We paid another £100 off the entertainment yesterday as well. Went to my friends baby shower last night and it was brilliant. Gave me lots of ideas for when it's my turn ;) text OH saying I wish the wedding was closer so we could be nearer to having a baby lol.
What does your OH think of the flower choices Donna? Is it something he could decide for you if you short listed the choices, or is it something you want to choose?
We ended up with real flowers, we didnt really give anything else a thought tbh, just booked in as we're friendly with our florist (OH gets my random bouquets from them every now and again)
What are you qualifying as Charlie? The invites will keep you occupied while saving a bit more money for other bookings.

Awww my MOH just had her first baby, she had a girl whereas I have two boys so been nice to buy girly things for her. Doesn't stop people asking "when's the next one" though lol.
I'm studying to be a Legal Executive (specialist lawyer). Was hoping to be qualified by time I was 30 (which is next year) but not going to happen with everything else going on. Will be nice to not have to sit exams in June though :-)
DIY invites are keeping me busy, but I keep changing my mind how I want them, and then I think they don't seem as nice as pocketfolds, but it's saving about £70 doing them myself so I am persisting. Kind of feels like once you have the 'big' things booked there's not so much you can until closer the time. I'm still pondering bridesmaids dresses though as toying with idea of using she who must not be named to make it cheaper but really unsure. Ahhhh. At least that's the worst of my worries at the moment.
What entertainment are you having April?

There are two bouquets we've narrowed it down to, pictures are in my album I think. He prefers the one without the sunflowers, as do my bridesmaids. But me and my mum prefer the sunflower one's. :/
Aghhh stop with the baby talk, making me broody haha. I was umming and arrring more recently about whether I wanted another one or not (my son will be 7 when we get married) and even got to the point where I was positive I didn't, but I've realised I really do, I think it's just we've been talking about getting married and having a baby for a few years and all of a sudden it was happening, I just freaked out. One of my bridesmaids has a gorgeous 8 month old girl, love seeing her.
We're doing our own invites as well, thinking of leaving that to my fiancé to sort as I really don't know where to start, keep telling ourselves we have ages to sort them, but we actually don't really, it will be Christmas soon enough
