so i get married in 18 days - had the most amazing hen weekend just got back - 12 of us in a lodge in cornwall - burlesque dancing experience, flow rider surfing simulator, hot tubbing, and lots of games and good food - only little thing was couldn't drink as found out i was pregnant last week! Managed to keep secret on hen do as am on antibiotics for kidney infection. However, maybe slightly tricky finding an excuse for the wedding!

Wow-Congratulations Christina and I agree with Catherine about an excuse for not drinking... that or you could have a glass that you ''sip'' at (and pass onto your new husband without people noticing) while telling people you don't want to drink too much as you don't want to get drunk and make a fool of yourself or forget the day

I finally gave out the invites after putting it off for months as I knew people would moan about the no children other than nieces & nephews, well today we had our 1st phone call (off a family member that had no kids at there own wedding)!!
It wasn't to bad, they asked if their kids were invited as they weren't mentioned on the invite, h2b said no as space is limited, he did say if they couldn't get childcare obviously we would rather they brang them then not come themselves.
But after the phone call I spoke to h2b about how other guests might get annoyed on the day if others turn up with there kids & he was like "I'd rather all the kids came anyway"!! Why did he not say this before when we spoke about it??
I now feel guilty & as if it's only my decision not to have the kids there, I would love them all to be there but there is only enough seating/room for 110 so something had to give. He is saying the kids will be running around playing, etc they won't want to sit down, but I'd be very p!ssed off if my mum, nan, etc couldn't get a seat as 40 extra kids took the space up!!
    Men!!

why is it that men dont take ownership of their decisions, as soon as things dont go well, they deny even agreeing with you on the decisions, stick to your guns, also make him aware that you both made the decision together so, he isnt to make out that its just you, they just dont like people thinking that they are bad, but it was both of you and he needs to understand this and stand by the decision you made together xxx

I only know this as my SIL had her hen night and it was ruined, we went to a club and were dancing away quite happily, then they put the smoke machine on,next thing you know my SIL is having a massive allergic reaction, was so bad we needed to take her to hospital,i wont be taking the risk, i dunno what is in them but ive never seen anything like it before! my SIL is quite a sensitive person, so alot of things can aggravate her anyway!

We had 1 usher drop out because his boss revoked his leave meaning he's being made to work even though he had booked it off (also my cousin which is more upsetting), domino effect from that is that my young cousins (another usher and page boy) don't feel comfortable on their own doing it. We lost a reader yesterday because she's going to get too nervous apparently and then this evening we lost out MOH and flowergirl (also her daughter) as it's too stressful with stuff going on with her and with her also being the other end of the country..... So all in all, yeah, fantastic :(

I feel for you Catherine, don't let it get you down, remember the important reason you're doing this in the first place... you and your wife!

We've lost the best man with only 3 weeks to go, I was angry, but I just let go, nothing is going to spoil my day.
My (so called) friend of 20+ years didn't even respond to the invite. I chased her a few times and all I kept getting was shrug offs "I'll let you know, not sure I can have have annual leave our boss isnt in today, let you know tomorrow"

Tomorrow came and went 3 times. I just gave up, she was struck of the list and if she crawls out of the woodwork last minute tough, my table plan is finished now.

The most important thing in the end it that you will be married. X

I'm really excited as my tracking indicates my bm dresses have been despatched from Exeter with the courier. So should be here soon hopeful. Going to see one of the girls later, so if it's here before then can have a play.

Also my flowers left London 3 days ago. So hopefully will be here soon. The tracking on them does not seen to be as detailed as on the dresses. DHL express vs USPS standard suppose

Got my first letter about my hen today, with a list of things I will need to pack as well.

As well as the things for the Saturday night, I need comfortable things to move in and dance accessories (such as tutu and leg warmers)

I've seen a fab 80's set on the bay which includes leg warmers, tutu, beads and fishnet gloves... only thing is I can't decide what colour to get. I have been sent a purple feather as a prop-which I'm assuming is for that outfit, so I was thinking I could do purple and another colour?

So purple and pink, or purple and yellow? (purple and yellow are our wedding colours though so would that be weird) or should I go for white as it's a bit more bridal? if I did go white, should I go full out white or wear black leggings and vest to go with the white accessories?

I've gone white-spoke to one of my bridesmaids and she said she is just wearing gym gear, so I thought I'd go for more of the bridal look as others aren't going full on for the 80's look. Plus I'll look madonna in her like virgin era ;) won't bother with garter or veil as don't know what others are getting me and it doesn't matter if I don't have them.

For now I have just 2 questions - How many of you all having for the sit down - want to get an average
and how many of you are having a honeymoon - or is that going by the wayside for now because I have no idea how we are going to afford that as well!?

It's exciting isn't it Donna, I'm off for hen do no.1 tomorrow, it's a double celebration as it's my 30th on the sunday too!!
Were off to a lodge in Exeter going to a local pub on Sat night, but the rest of the time will be spent at the lodge in the hot tub.
Weather is looking pretty pants though :(

Jane we have 102 coming but we aren't having a sit down meal, just a buffet to cut costs. We go to Mexico 17 days after the wedding, H2B's son has his army passing out parade 5 days after the wedding so we had to make sure we were here for it.

    Hi Jane,

We are having a sit down meal for around 50 guests. As for honeymoon why don't you have something in the UK. We wanted the big honeymoon but couldn't afford it along with the wedding an also August is the wet season or prime hurricane time where we ere looking at so we are staying with Mallorca this year and having our honeymoon in the future.

We are having somewhere between 90-100 for the meal and about 125 in the evening.

As for honeymoon we were going to go to st lucia in November however that's been canned as we are now in the process of selling our house and have reserved a plot for a new build :)

My Oh is away in his stag weekend to Amsterdam will be in the air now, is it bad that I cant wait to get him home on sunday, didn't think i would feel this way about him being in Amsterdam.

MrsRobson2Be - buffet sounds like a good idea - has it cut costs dramatically? Did you want a sit down or did you always think a buffet was the way forward

thefuture:Mrs_Hurren - We probably will end up having a minimoon in the UK - i've just never been further the the isle of wight so my dream would be to go abroad for the first time on my honeymoon.... maybe i'll start looking into competitions.... perhaps BGT or This Morning will give me a honeymoon! lol

Yes Jane it cut cost by a huge amount as it's now costing us nothing :)
My dad & stepmum are both ex chefs & my uncle is a chef, they have all agreed to do our food & my dad is now covering all food costs.
The cheapest alternative was a hog roast at just under 1k but were not fans of hog roast. I never wanted a big sit down meal its a bit to formal for me & we couldn't justify the expense, were going more of a relaxed route.
The only other option we thought about having was a few food vans (fish & chips, burgers, etc) but we were worried about people having to queue for ages for their food, whilst waiting for it to be prepared, cooked etc.
