HI girls been a while since i been on here as been rather busy of late! hope everyones plans are going well!!!!!

i have had my first flowers quote come through and i have to say it is more than i was hoping for! The requirements were modern displays with purple vander orchids and calla lillies, this is my quote so far:-

Brides Bq:A modern shower bouquet with vander blue magic orchids as the focal, entwined with white calla lilies and lily grass. Also with other foliages and black wire work. @ £180

Bridesmaids: x2. 3 x white calla lilies with vander orchid on stem & bead work detail @ £35 each

Grooms B/hole:Vander orchid with bullion wire on stem, ( stem to be wavey) £8.50

Buttonholes - men:x4 white calla with silver wire detail @ £8.50 each

    Buttonhole - lady:x1 white calla dressed suitable for a lady @ £8.50

Corsages:x1 using calla lily x1 using vander orchid @ £15 each

Reception:Top table x2 modern arrangements using, white calla lilies, vander orchids, white anthuriums, foliages, china stripe & lily grass. These arrangments will sit side by side on the top table. china stripe is to trail from the arrangements with vander orchids attached ( one of these arrangements to be used for the registary table) total cost £160

I know orchids are on the pricey side so was expecting it to be a little more than the norm, what do you all think compared to your quotes and experiences?

    thanks in advance!

    vikki x

Our quotes varied from £450 to £750 - the lower end seemed to have no ideas, and just took what I said and quoted for that. The highter end had lots of ideas and helped to improve on what I said I wanted. We've gone for one at the higher end - she seemed really nice, had lots of ideas and even brought a little book with her so she could show me the flowers that she was suggesting.

all seems about right to me, apart from your bouquet. Thats a bit pricey............ And do you need 2 top table arrangements?
we are only having one that will be moved from the ceremony table, to the registry table then onto the top table for dinner!

we are not having top table arrangments as the long and low used in the ceremony is at our disposal, as is my bouquet and the bm bouquets so our florist advised us not to really decorate the top table and save some pennies

well i knew it was going to be pricey with the type of flowers i want to use vanda orchids at cost price are quite high. i think i might see if there is anyway we can cut it back a little. maybe just have the one top table display like linzi suggested. the reason we were having 2 was because i dont like the big classic styles u get so i chose something modern and simple which linked in the middle with the grasses.

can anyone think of any other flowers that are around in aug and purple?!?!

thanks for the imput girls, its given me something to think about....

im getting married at end of july and having purple flowers. i dont know what they are called, i'll try and look at the email from florist to see if it says or not but wont be until tomorrow now.

you could just ask your florist they will help. i also suggest going to a few different florists to compare prices xx

It does seem rather expensive. Im having a tear drop bouquet with calla lillies, freesia, the grassy bits with little beads on for £80. We're having gerbera's for the button holes for the main guests at £2.50 each (that's including them being fancy). The h2b button hole is a Calla lilly for £4. I found that the modern shops were the most expensive and did have good ideas but I shopped around and found the little florists shops were half the price. The florist I decided to go for had excellent ideas and was very fair on prices. She also explained that the modern hand tied bouquets are very easy to put together compared to the tear drop shape as the tear drop shape have to be wired and this takes more time for the florists. You would therefore expect the hand tied to be cheaper but the modern shops tend to put high prices on these because they are more popular. A couple of the modern shops I went to also had the brides bouquets starting at £100 before you had even chosen the flowers you wanted. Definitely shop around to get the best deals!!
