WOW!!! How do they manage it though. I have no idea what I would spend that much on for a wedding.
I don't want to tar them all with the same brush.....but why the hell do the rest of us have to half kill ourselves working all the hours to look after our families, pay the bills and scrimp and save to have just 1 magical day? If I didn't have to pay council tax, water and rent I'd be about £12000 better off every year! Why shouldn't they pay too?

Obviously its not hard earned money? How do you work that out lol I know a good few gypsies, my gran being one. Obviously I can't speak for them all but the ones I know are they hardest workers! They are so generous and kind, and there is no way on this earth would they ever scrounge. In my opinion they deserve to spend their own money, how every much that may be, how ever they choose :) Its not like they are living on benefits and paying for a wedding with money gave to them from our taxes :-\ which I know a few people are! Now thats disgusting.....
I though our £10k was alot of money, we could buy a new car that would last alot longer than a day lol. I don't understand what would cost £140,000. The dresses yes they are expensive but its not like they have amazing venues :O

If i had that amount of money at my disposal no way would i blow it all on one day! Its is a disgusting amount spend. I think these days weddings seem to be more about look what i've got and not what it actually means. Where i live there is alot round here and they arent so nice and trustworthy. Im not saying they are all the same no way!! Just i really cant see how anyone even if you earnt billions just justify spending that on one day. There are much better things to spend it on.

that is an incredible amount... I've been getting nagged at as to why we are spending 20K let alone 140k. Confused though because yes the dresses looked really expensive and they spend a lot on the cars but (and I know its a show) but I couldnt really see evidence of a decent venue or flowers, live bands etc. It seemed the bog standard that most people do so I would have put them around 30K max mainly because of the dresses... dont get where the rest comes from at all!

If you think about it they don't pay tax which is where a lot of our money goes as they work cash in hand. They also don't pay council tax and rent if they are living in trailers etc which is where a lot of our wages goes so you can see how they have the money to save. If people have the money and want to spend it then its up to them how they spend it but personally I would buy a house for that!

I think its up to them what they spend I would hate to think if some people were discussing my budget like this. These families work hard from what I see and live humble lives so it is not surprissing they have money. I like the weddings even if they are ott and I really love the open invite to the whole community we dont even know who lives next door nevermind inviting them to the wedding

I agree with you there laticschick, family and friends are the important bit. Not sure how much our wedding has cost, to be honest I havent added it up for ages, all I know is it is still affordable and not got silly! And still enough money left over to enjoy our honeymoon without having to raid the breakfast bar and make sandwiches for lunch!

Yes it is a huge amount of money but who are we to say it's wrong? They might look at our budgets and think that it shows us as mean or not wanting to celebrate enough.
Each to their own and if you've got the cash to spend then why not?
Although I have to say personally I think the bridal gowns on My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding look really cheap and horrible, the fabric just looks nasty and is not my sort of thing at all!!
But then its not my money and not my business!

It is true though that it doesn't matter how much money you throw at a wedding it doesn't make it any better or any worse than anyone else's. It should be personal to each couple.
