Okay ladies so I'm having a little bit of a dilemma! I'm having eight bridesmaids/flower girls in total. My two best friends as adult bridesmaids, my two 15 year old cousins as bridesmaids, my 8 year old cousin as flower girl and h2b's three nieces who will be 3, 6 and 10. Now my problem is knowing whether to have the 10 year old as flower girl with her sisters (would be nicer for family photos if they're all wearing the same) or if I make her bridesmaid which I'm sure she would prefer because she'd be one of the 'big girls'. Also, having a look at the numbers in total, could I really have 5 bridesmaids and 3 flower girls? Would it be uneven for photos etc? Or am I just over thinking things? H2b's family have all said that they think she should be bridesmaid because she'll be old enough, but I'm not sure. Ive looked online and most flower girl dresses go up to age 12 which must mean something! Anyway, any help would be much appreciated! Would love to know what other brides would do in this situation. X

i have 5 bridesmaid, 2 adults who are in a adult styled dress, 2 middle ones (8 and 11) who are being bridesmaid in a junior styled dress and then one flower girl (5), the 11 year old just looked to old to be in a flower dress but guess it all depends on their height etc (the 8 year old is as tall as the 11 year old!) pictures of dresses are in my folder if you want to take a look? x

Your pictures are gorgeous, Laura. I did consider getting her a junior style dress which is more her age, but I'm scared she then won't fit in with the others and won't look part of the wedding party since it's just her who would need it. My 8 year old is tiny so she'll definitely be flower girl. Will have a look at junior dresses and see if there's anything I like that could match :)

If it were me a 10 year old is to old to be a flower girl! I was 9 at my Cousins wedding and was a junior bm, and ny younger cousin was 6 and was flower girl, i would been mortified to have been that same as her, in my head flower girls should not be over 6/7 at a squeeze!

Tbh, I think she's better being called a bridesmaid - I was 7 (by one week!) and I was still called a bridesmaid .. Also at that age a lot of children want to be all grown up so I would have thought she'd want to be a bridesmaid rather than being babied and made to be a flower girl but that's just me :) flower girls are max age of 5/6 in my eyes! xx

At my BIL's wedding in June, they had their daughter as a flower girl, she was almost 10 but is quite a big girl, tall and broad! In all honesty, her dress was too young looking for her, she looks about 14. It's a hard one ask her maybe. Is there not a junior style of your adult bridesmaid dresses? xx

I think 10 is a bit old to be a flower girl, junior bridesmaid is probably more appropriate. It really depends on the child though, could you ask her what she wants to do?

Mine will be 7 and 9, and there's no way they are being bridesmaids. It's flower girls or nothing.

Plus I think older looking outfits on pre teens look a little odd anyway as they have no shape

Seems like there's a very big mix of views on this!! I will definitely ask her how she feels about it, but to be honest I reckon she'd rather be the same as her sisters. All kids are different :) I agree with Velcro, sometimes dressing them too old isn't great, and I can't afford proper bridesmaid dresses from bridal shops, so it will end up being something from the highstreet that's probably too old for her. Will speak to her anyway and see what she thinks! Thanks everyone for your input! x

Yeah I think you should ask her what she prefers. I know a lot of kids think flower girls are baby-ish but she might want to if her sisters are. Maybe she could have the same dress as them but you could call her a bridesmaid so she feels special?

I have an 11 year old and she is going to be a junior bridesmaid. I bought my dresses from the high street and bought her the same one in a size 6, I'm going to get the length altered so that it is knee length and have the halter changed into straps and get it altered to her size. That way the dress is still age appropriate but she still fits in with the adult bridesmaids :) xxx

My daughter turned 10 just today and is very happy to be a fg, perhaps it's because she's so excited to be a part of our day and has never questioned it, but then she is the only one so perhaps the fact she is wearing a dress no one else is makes her feel special. To me I would not want my 10 year old dressed as an adult but each to their own. 10 is still young and innocent so dont See an issue on them being a fg at all.

i have a 5 year old and 8 year old. im calling them my bridesmaids but they will be in flower girl dresses. really it depends on what size she is and whether she will get in either flowergirl dress or bridemaids dress. you can call them what you want. my 8 year old neice fits in an age 5 dress as she is so petite but my 5 year old sister has an age 9 dress! you really cant say until you go to the shop and see what dresses fit and or suit her best. if they both fit/suit her then ask her which dress she would prefer xx
