Paisley & Theo's Wedding Story
So tell us about how you met and all about the proposal…
We met at University of the first day of moving into campus halls and we both studied the same course. Theo proposed while we were glamping on a vineyard in Dorset for his birthday, it was very romantic!
What were your hopes for your big day?
We just wanted to have a lovely day with our closest friends and family. The whole day turned out just as we had hoped and the sun shone all day, which made for some great photos and lovely atmosphere!
Why did you choose The Granary as your venue?
We were both hoping for a smaller wedding venue with an intimate feel, so when we saw the Granary it was perfect! We took a visit over on a wedding open evening and reserved the date. It really is a perfect venue for all kinds of weddings! Glenn, Tom, Rachel and the rest of the staff were all so lovely and helpful, both during the run up to the day and the day itself! We are both so pleased that we choose the Granary as our wedding venue and couldn’t recommend it enough!
The Bride & her Maids…
We brought the dress from a bridal shop in Rushden, I knew what type of dress I wanted and this was actually the first dress that I tried on! I absolutely loved the fit and the lace detail, I also had sleeves put on and a belt to add a small bit of sparkle. I really couldn’t have been happier with the result and I would defiantly recommend the bridal shop to anyone looking for a wedding dress!
I also opted for a flower crown, rather than a veil or tiara, as I really wanted a rustic look on the day. I felt that the flower crown really went with the natural setting of the venue and it matched my bouquet perfectly!
The shoes I brought from John Lewis, I opted for a small healed shoe as I’m not really used to wearing high heels! The photographer did an amazing job by capturing the shoes in some photos. Although I did change into my trainers later during the day as the shoes hurt my feet! (that did make for a good photo!)
I had one bridesmaid and we choose the grooms niece and nephew as the flower girl and the ring bearer. My bridesmaid was my best friend Chloe who I’ve known since we were both tiny and we’ve pretty much grown up together, she’s like my sister! She did an amazing job helping me get ready and supporting me on the day, there’s really no one else that would have come close, it was really very special!
The Groom and his Groomsmen…
He wore a pale blue suit with an ironic Paisley print tie! The best man was Pieter who flew all the way from South Africa to be with us. Him and his wife, Melissa, were a huge help in making our day as beautiful as it was. Dec was my other groomsman, he brought a touch of class and loads of support for the very nervous groom!
Tell us about the theme for the day…
We really wanted to stick with the rustic setting of the venue so we decided to keep the decorations simple. We didn’t really have a theme, and made a lot of the decorations ourselves. The brides mum was a massive help with the decorations and helped to make all of the glass jars and did an amazing job with the flowers. She used to work with wedding flowers, so we left the flower decisions down to her, which defiantly paid off! For the flowers we choose to use gypsophila and pink and white roses with raffia ribbon for the table centerpieces, the wedding party flowers and the ceremony decorations. We also had a lot of fairy lights and bunting on the barns beams and rose petals on the floor.
Glenn, Tom and the team did an amazing job transforming the ceremony room for the wedding breakfast!
We didn’t really have a colour scheme as we used a lot of different colours, although we tried to stick with pinks and purples. We found that not sticking to a specific colour scheme worked out really well as we didn’t have to worry about everything being the same colour!
Flowers
My mum’s friend mum supplied the flowers for the wedding party, she made my bouquet, the bridesmaids and the flower girls, the groomsmen’s button holes and a flower spray for the top table. We pretty much left it down to her in designing all of the arrangements and she did an amazing job, especially in making the most stunning bouquet I could have wished for!
Again, we tried to stick with the rustic theme by using gypsophila, roses and raffia ribbon for the wedding party flowers.
My mum designed the rest of the flowers for the table centre pieces and the seating plan, she brought the flower bunches from supermarkets and made the most lovely handmade table centerpieces.
Photography
We hired a professional wedding photographer, Ian Worth, for our wedding photography. He’s the most amazing photographer and a really lovely guy! Ian managed to get some brilliant shots and knew exactly where to take the best photos in the Granary’s grounds. We ended up with some lovely photos that we can treasure forever! We both really couldn’t recommend him enough.
The Ceremony
The ceremony went perfectly, with no mistakes or tripping down the aisle, and it was very short and sweet. This was followed by a religious blessing from the groom’s brother, Reverend Deon, which made the day very personal and special!
The Food
We chose the Granary’s recommended catering service Creative events. Andy, Ben and the team were all really helpful and the food was amazing! We went for the 3 course wedding breakfast option, the roast potatoes and cheesecake in particular were amazing!
Entertainment
We chose not to have any entertainment and ended the day at 5pm when the guests went home, leaving us to enjoy a peaceful evening at the Granary’s accommodation, which we had all to ourselves! We also had a romantic picnic of pot noodles and champagne on the lawn as the sun set!
What was the highlight of your day?
Paisley: The highlight of my day was how amazing and stress-free everything worked out, the sun shone all day and everyone had a great time! The staff at the granary really did an amazing job throughout the day! It really was the most special day of my life.
Theo: My beautiful bride, and getting married!
What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to anyone planning a wedding?
We would advise anyone currently planning a wedding to relax and enjoy every moment of the day and the planning process. It’s really not that stressful! We’re both extremely happy that we chose the Granary for our wedding venue, the staff couldn’t have been any more helpful and lovely throughout the whole process.
