The Real Wedding of Lizzie & Oliver

Lizzie & Oliver's Wedding Story

Like many modern love stories, we met on Tinder — nine years ago. After years filled with adventures, travel, and our beloved Labrador by our side, Oli got down on one knee at Malham Cove. That unforgettable moment marked the start of planning our perfect day.

The Vision
We chose a long engagement so we could enjoy every step of the planning process. From day one, we had a clear vision: jewel tones, an outdoor setting, our dog there with us, and an easy, relaxed atmosphere. A huge part of bringing it all together was working with our incredibly talented wedding artist, he helped us thread together all the themes we loved into one cohesive, personal celebration.

The Venue
We visited venues of every shape and size across Cheshire, Manchester, and Lancashire, but the moment we stepped into The Oak Tree, it just clicked. With its roots as a converted golf club (a subtle nod to Oli’s love of the game) and a serene natural backdrop, it blended everything we wanted — whimsical, togetherness, and nature. The warm and welcoming staff sealed the deal, and having everything happen in one beautiful location made the day even more magical.
One sweet detail that made us love the team even more: I asked if the staff would mind wearing jewel tones to match our theme — and they kindly said yes. It might seem small, but seeing them beautifully dressed in our colours added such a special touch to the day. It was another reason why The Oak Tree team felt like more than just a venue — they were part of the celebration.

Whimsical Details
Whimsy was at the heart of my bridal look — and every detail felt like a personal expression of who I am. I found the one on a mannequin at Wed2Be — a floaty A-line gown covered in soft 3D florals, delicate sparkle, and layers of magic. My mum suggested I try it in blush pink, and just like that, the vision came to life.
To complement the dress, I chose a crown of soft boho braids, lovingly styled by the incredibly talented Bellinda from All In One Beauty. My braids added that elegant yet playful, romantic yet grounded feel to the whole look. And as a lifelong acrylic lover, I couldn’t leave out my nails. They were beautifully done in a soft, whimsical design that tied everything together. From dress to hair to nails, it was all about soft magic, meaningful touches, and feeling beautifully “me.”

All Out Joy
Joy and fun were woven into every part of the day. We created a playful wedding newspaper filled with games, stories, and anecdotes to make guests smile. Lawn games dotted the gardens, creating laughter and spontaneous moments between loved ones. In the evening, we hosted a casino night — the perfect setting for everyone to unwind and play. It reflected us so well: laid-back, joyful, and always up for a bit of fun.

The Big Day
The day before the wedding, we decorated and prepped the venue with our closest family and friends — a celebration in itself filled with laughter, happy chaos, and last-minute finishing touches. On the morning of the wedding, we all got ready together at the venue, soaking in every moment. Our incredible photographer captured it all so effortlessly. The weather was perfect, letting us move the ceremony outside — and everything unfolded just as we had imagined. With lawn games, sharing-style dining, and endless smiles, it was the relaxed spring wedding we always dreamed of.

Our Happily Ever After
What made the day even more special was having our Labrador with us and family traveling from far and wide to celebrate. We stuck to one golden piece of advice: do what you love. From the casual BBQ-style food to the group photo of Oli with all the supportive men in his life, it was a day full of heart. A beautiful coming together of all the people, places, and memories that make up our love story.
