The Real Wedding of Katrina & Joshua

Katrina & Joshua's Wedding Story

Tell us how you met…
We met at sunderland Uni in 2010, didn’t become boyfriend and girlfriend till 2013, we got engaged in Disneyland California in Jan 2018.

Tell us all about your wedding! What colour scheme, theme and flowers did you choose?
We wanted our wedding to be fun and be about us, I’m a big Disney fan and Josh loves all types of movies. So we wanted to have movies and Disney in the wedding. We made our own table centres after our favourite films. We didn’t really have a colour theme, the bridesmaid dress colour was called ‘once upon a time’ and fitted perfectly with the theme. I’m not the biggest flower person so I wasn’t sure and picking flowers was one the hardest decisions. I didn’t want a lot of flowers and just a small bouquet so I went simple with roses. I didn’t want too much greeny but didn’t want a ‘perfectly round bouquet’ and I added hidden mickeys into my flowers.
Tell us about the dress… What style was it? Where was it from? What did your bridesmaids wear?
I loved my dress, I had the straps added to my dress as I loved the dress but I didn’t want strapless. It was sparkley and princess like. It was AJ Bridal. My bridesmaids wore floaty halter neck dresses from My Big Day Bridal.
Any funny stories from the wedding?
Josh sang his speech and everyone loved it.

What was your highlight of the day?
It is hard to pick just one. It was amazing getting ready in the morning, with all the girls getting pampered. I loved the speeches and just seeing people’s reactions, and I loved the evening reception. Just being able to dance and talk to everyone and be stress free.
Tell us about your entertainment…
Josh is more into music than me so he found the band and they were amazing. Everyone loved them and they just had everyone up dancing and they were lovely people.

What wedding menu did you choose?
Melon, Beef dinner and Sticky toffee pudding

Tell us about your wedding photos… which one was your favourite and why?
I love all our photos; Claire was amazing, such a lovely person and made us feel at ease. It would be hard to pick just one photo!! But the group shot with us, groomsman and bridesmaids in the grass is up there.
What made you choose Black Horse Beamish? Would you recommend the venue to future brides?
It looked like it was in the middle of nowhere but it was just 5 mins away from our house. It was different to all over venues we looked at. I liked how flexible it was, we were able to do anything (within reason) eg our own table pieces, own band so it was our wedding and made it special and personalized to us. And the staff were amazing and so helpful

Advice for other brides and grooms?
Try not to stress out about what your guests with think, I was worried about the food we picked incase people didn’t like it. And the weather, but its something you cant control. We had rain on our day but we still had the best day and managed to get some amazing photos.
