The Real Wedding of Emmeline & Andrew

Emmeline & Andrew's Wedding Story

Where/how did you meet?

It’s a bit of an unusual one, but we first found each other on Myspace many, many years ago! We met up in London after years of chatting online, and it all went from there.

Tell us a little bit about yourselves!

Emmeline is an illustrator, and Andrew is an author and animator. We’re both currently working on a comic together! We both love the outdoors, yoga, climbing, videogames and exploring new places. After the wedding we fulfilled a lifelong dream and went to Japan for our honeymoon.

Where are you both from? If you aren’t a local then why choose Lancashire?

Andrew was born and raised in Lancashire, and Emmeline moved here from Cornwall about a decade ago.

What made you pick Samlesbury for your wedding venue? Can you tell us how you first heard about Samlesbury Hall as a wedding venue

We’d visited Samlesbury Hall a few times before we got engaged, and really enjoyed exploring the Hall and gardens. We knew we wanted to get married somewhere with a bit of history, with a ceremony room and accommodation onsite - the hall turned out to be the perfect setting for our wedding, especially having the ceilidh in the main hall and fancy-dress races on the lawn.

What did you eat for your wedding breakfast?

We had leek and potato soup, roast chicken, and sticky toffee pudding. I think about that sticky toffee pudding all the time. In the evening we had pizza in the courtyard – it was amazing!

Did the team at Samlesbury Hall help you in making decisions?

The team supported us with our decisions throughout the wedding planning journey. Clearly giving us options which worked with our budget, and letting us know logistical details, meant we could decorate the hall and arrange the day to be exactly how we wanted it to be.

What was the very best part of your day?

The whole day was absolutely perfect and it’s difficult to pinpoint the best part! It might come down to either the quivering lips as we read our vows during the beautiful ceremony, the fancy dress race or the incredibly fun ceilidh dancing in the evening!

Anything else you would like to add?

We were really keen to make a lot of the wedding décor ourselves, so we designed and illustrated our own invitations; seating plans; and a booklet full of games, ceremony readings and fun tasks for our guests!

We also handmade origami animals as wedding favours, Emmeline’s family arranged all of the flowers, and she walked down the aisle to a song written by one friend and played on piano by another! It gave the whole day a really personal touch, and got our friends and family involved, which was one of the most important things for us.

We’re so thankful to Rachael, Sasha and the team for all their help. So many of our guests said it was the best wedding they’d ever been to! We definitely had an incredible day, and Samlesbury Hall will always be a really special place for us.
