The Real Wedding of Becky & Carl

Becky & Carl's Wedding Story

*Tell me about the proposal?
Carl proposed to me in Reykjavik in Iceland. We’d visited there a few years before and absolutely loved it. We came across a lake called Tjörnin that we loved on our first visit and that’s where he proposed when we visited in 2019. It was freezing!

*Tell us about your wedding where was it set and what was the feel of the day.
We got married at The Old Library at the Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham. We’re both from Birmingham and met here, so it just made sense to get married in the city. We wanted a fairly relaxed, colourful, ‘cool’ city wedding.

*What did you love/hate about dress shopping?
Obviously it’s amazing trying on lots of dresses for the day and being made to feel super special. It’s also so lovely doing it with your nearest and dearest… I brought along my mom and close friend. I went to two bridal shops and the first experience I found a bit uncomfortable as none of the dresses were my style and the staff were a little pushy. So glad I found you guys in the end!

*What made you pick your dress?
It ticked all the boxes for me. Square neckline, beaded and a slim, simple cut with beautiful details. It is cliche but you do know when you’ve found the one for you.

*How did you style your day, and yourself?
We got married on 1 October, as everything started to feel autumnal so we had lots of rusty oranges, mustard yellows and pea greens, but also splashes of rich pinks and blues. An autumnal rainbow! Each of the bridesmaids (and bridesman) wore a different colour and a dress/suit of their choice as I wanted them to feel comfortable. I wanted quite a classic look with a little edge, so had a simply cut, slim dress but I still wanted it to feel really special, so the details like the beading, square neckline and train detail were perfect. I had Hollywood curls, a simple eye with a wing, an orangey lipstick and a colourful bouquet and floral hair slide.

*What advice would you give to brides now?
Make your day quintessentially you. It’s the little details that scream ‘you’ that people will love and remember. Pick YOUR favourite dress. My bridal party preferred another dress, but I went with my choice and didn’t regret it.
