Wedding Rings

With the tradition dating from the Egyptian times wedding rings are a very important and life-changing purchase...

Wedding rings are a constant symbol of your love for one another, so it’s no wonder you want to get it exactly right.

“The most vital element is to choose the right metal,” advises Andrew Hinds, director of national jewellers F.Hinds. “Soft metals will be worn down by harder rings, so you should ideally choose the same metal as your engagement ring to prevent wear over time. Match platinum engagement rings with platinum wedding rings, for example ”

Andrew also thinks some discolouration over time is perfectly normal. “Rhodium is used on both platinum and white gold to add a brighter sheen. As this layer wears away your rings may dull slightly, but don’t panic – any jeweller will be able to re-coat them.”

A symbol of your love for one another.

Andrew tells us many choose to have a pattern added to their wedding rings: “Remember that engraved designs are deeper and therefore stand the test of time a lot longer than a pure matt design. However, if you have a manual job and your ring is likely to wear, consider a plain design.”

“Getting the size right is paramount,” Andrew tells us. “It’s not uncommon for many brides to choose the ring meant for the groom, as they tend to have a wider fit. Don’t be ashamed to ask to try it on! Also ensure a jeweller measures your finger properly, as you have no legal right to a refund should it not fit on your wedding day!”

Andrew has one last word of advice: “If you’re having a big dieting push before your wedding day, try to put off buying your wedding rings for as long as possible – there’s nothing worse than a bride on a high from losing lots of weight suddenly finding out her wedding ring will now be too big for her!”
