Prince William and Kate Middleton Announce Date and Venue of The Royal Wedding

After a week of speculation surrounding when and where Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry, rumours have been quashed as officials at Clarence House release exciting information about the royal wedding...

The date for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding has been announced today. Officials at Clarence House have confirmed that the royal wedding will take place on Friday 29 April 2011 and is to be held at Westminster Abbey.

Rumours that Westminster Abbey would be the preferred location were sparked last week when Kate Middleton was spotted leaving the venue late last Wednesday night.  The other potential contender— St Paul’s Cathedral has now been ruled out.

David Cameron has confirmed that the day will be a national public holiday; "We want to mark the day as one of national celebration - a public holiday will ensure the most people possible will have a chance to celebrate on the day", he said.

The royal family and the Middletons will split the cost of the celebrations, but the British taxpayer will be left to foot the bill for security costs.

Betting enthusiasts have undoubtedly been left disappointed after bookmaker Paddy Power offered 3/1 odds on the favoured wedding date of Saturday August 13.

A senior official said "William and Kate are very keen that it should be a classic British occasion with good spring weather: in sentiment, it's going to be that sort of day."
