We had a rough idea of the date we wanted and as the venue was available we put a deposit down to secure our date in October 2019

Probably about 18 months before but some places were struggling to fit us in for the dates we wanted already by that point (but it was a Saturday in August so we weren't surprised that it was tough!)

I booked venue in 2016 for 2017 and struggled to get a date if I'm honest. If you have a venue and date in mind you probably need to book more than a year in advance. X

Booked ours within 12 months bit dependant on popularity of venue it is quite common for them to be booked for 2-3 years in advance

12 months before ... It was a pure spur of the moment ... I saw this beautiful barn online that had a wedding fare happening that weekend so we went ... Very spontaneous ... We walked in and OH just looked at me and said we are getting married here ... we fell on live and booked it then and there for almost exactly a year (we knew the date we wanted) xxx

I think Most places need a year notice as I've been to many venues that say 'were mostly booked for this year' depends on the chosen venue I guess x

Just under 3year in advanced glad we paid the deposit when we did as venue upped prices but because we had already put the 10% deposit they couldn't charge us more this also meant we got the corkage and drinks rates for the price for 2014 prices we marry next week and our venue now charge 2/3k more than we paid xx

We've just booked our venue this week for August 2019. A lot of places we had viewed in January were already booked up nearly into 2020. By pure luck we stumbled upon our perfect venue that still had the date we wanted

Depends on where and when you want to get married, some venues get booked up several years in advance for Saturdays in summer. Can also save money from price increases if you know which venue you want and book early. If you want a church wedding though, make sure the church is available too!!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 16 Aug 2017

We booked ours 2 years in advance, best thing we did as we got 2016 prices and the date we wanted. Also we got the last Saturday for September. Depends how fussy you are on the venue you want and date.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 16 Aug 2017

July this year for October next year. We wanted a very particular date and a Saturday so thought best not risk it. Plus after that you can plan all the fun decorations. I'd recommend booking within 18-12 months. As soon as you know what kind of venue you want, unless it's an incrediblly popular date like Valentines Day you should probably book at least two years away.
